I'm going to put Dooney on Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato. HOWEVER, there were no puppy food available anywhere in these stores that did not contain chicken, which is a possibility of being the culprit so I will be feeding my 5 mo. old dog food not puppy food as a last resort. I don't want her to have any growth problems, and the woman at the store told me the main difference is the amount of protein and that Dooney will be fine as long as she gets her extra protein in other ways. Is this true? I have only begun to mix this food so as not to put her stomach in shock from the switch but the itching seems to have calmed down already. but like I said I don't want to cause any structural damage. Any advice?
I was told once that puppy food was higher in fat for the growing puppy and it really wasn't that big of deal if it was on puppy food or not. I myself do not know for certain.
I was having troubles with Blaze around the age of 2 months on. I got her at 2 months! LOL I stayed with the puppy food and started trying other puppy foods. After a few months found out the poor thing had coccidia and was treated with no problems again. Had I only known, I thought is was the food.
You can go to petfooddirect and order what you need or ask the store to carry it for you. Best of luck.
