Bless her heart! She won't make the mistake of honestly asking for advice here again! We sure showed her! ROTFLMAO This was sad. I apologize Windy. I really never intended you in my original post. I was very honestly trying to answer her. I do not get what I said was wrong, but if it offended you, sorry.
Blue, there are enough breeds recognized by the AKC. Why even bother with more? We dont need any more breeds. We need to focus on what we have, become more responsible as a society and rescue from organizations that supply that option if not going through PROFESSIONAL breeders of a specific breed.
Blue Dixie --So do I understand correctly that in your opinion it isn't legitimate until AKC acknowledges it?
No ma'am. (suddenly hoping you are a ma'am) My opinions and those of the AKC differ on a great number of areas. While I think (here I go opening a huge can of worms, I can smell them now) there need to be guidelines in registrations and some registries out there are way to lax, I think the AKC is wrong in the way they handle things. Colors in breeds for example. AKC only recognizes some colors in breeds, but colors do appear from way back when the breeding of several types began. Do I think they are any less because they are a "rare" or a "rejected" color. Nope. I would generally choose that one to be different. And IMHO we wouldn't have near the genetic issues in some dogs if they weren't so closely related when bred because they can only be bred to this color or this size nonsense.
Whew.......... Let me take a breath. Ok so now someone please tell me how wrong I am, as if I needed to ask you to. =P
Why breed dogs that do not conform to the breed standards ? The smaller the dog, the bigger the profit ? I may be a "rat dog" as you seem to say, bluedixie, but at least i am not trying to miniaturize my frenchies so that i can label them mini's and make a little more money than one that is within the breed standard.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
Actually Janders (actually I'm a Sir by the way. You can tell by the use of logic in my posts) that is probably the one post of yours I agree with the most. I cracks me up how breeders use the term genetic this or that and then proceed to limit the gene pool instead of broadening it.
The only purpose of life is the very moment you currently occupy. Dogs get this....
Sorry Blue, will think of you as sir from now on. I agree with most of what you post. Maybe its (sarcastic tone intended here) because I am not a professional. Maybe it takes years of breeding to get that stuck up.
This was asked -- Why breed dogs that do not conform to the breed standards ? -- What if I don't agree with the standards? I never took an oath anywhere that said I could only have this color dog or that size dog. Just because two people agreed 50 years ago that their dogs were cutier than everyone elses dogs and just because my dog doesn't throw white, then that just won't be an acceptable color for this breed. And because I like you and you, you can breed your dogs with mine and because I don't like you and don't want you to breed your dog and take away my customers, I am going to limit your registration. No sorry, I just can not agree with that kind of thinking.
