Hey all - this may be the stupidest question I have ever asked, but... I was at a BBQ this weekend and brought my pup. Someone at the BBQ mentioned something to me that surprised me. He said, Black faced dogs are known to be more agressive! I'm not sure what brought it about, since my pup isn't aggresive in any way. Has anyone else ever heard this before? IMO, this is the stupidest generalization I've ever heard.
Totally untrue. Color has nothing to do with temperment. I think that the darker face , to some people, gives the dog a more fierce look. I have two Frenchies with black masks and they are the sweetest little dogs in the world. Someone was just pulling your chain.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
People's ignorance doesn't surprise me at all . LOL You should here the stupid things I here about APBTs.
Such as: "Oh I'm afraid those dogs have locking jaws." LOL I just tell them that's ok I have the KEY and then explain that there is no such thing and it is a myth. I have even had ignorant owners of the breed think that was true UUUUGH.

Thanks all - I guess I just needed some reassurance of what I already knew! Patch - I guess of all the breeds you probably hear the most ridiculous statements. I absolutley love Pitties - they're such a good dog - in the right hands. I'm from Canada - more specifically Ontario, where Pitbulls have had a breed ban placed on them. Absolutely NO breeding - all current dogs must be spayed/neutered - and all dogs MUST wear muzzles when out in public - all because there are stupid people out there who like the look of this breed to be menacing - and teach the dog to be that way. Such a shame.
I'll have to use that one! I've heard so many side comments such as the "two yr snap" or of course "they were all made for dog fighting..." I am sometimes shocked at how the public actually views these dogs; they have become more of a science-fiction monster rather than an actual breed of "dog".
Friendly chatting about my own experiences with Lu has helped to break down any intimidation barriers & we actually get waves in the neighhborhood versus stares. It's a start! =)
*On a side note one of our all black bullys was just adopted, we had her for 6 mos and she went to a great RESPONSIBLE home =) Hip hip hooooooooray!!! ;)
Ha ha, I call my black faced boy Jaws. He likes to jump up and bite my bum while I clean his run. One of my pups has an all black head, I will be on the look out for Jaws II. Now go kiss the black faced boy for all of us, and tell him it's not true.
but did you know more people are fearful of black horses than any other color. Now we must be animal rasist.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
Windy Valley, I find that interesting. I think black horses are gorgeous, white too. I'm more afraid of Arabians because I have never been around a good, calm one, their always highstrung crazy beasts. :P
Pen, as the person who said this was an old family friend, I didn't want to offend him by responding the way I wanted to: "Are you f**king serious? Where the h*ll did you hear that load of BS from?" I kindly walked away (taking my vicious black-faced puppy with me) LOL
DD..I'm in Ontario as well. What I find interesting about the Pitbull legislation which came into affect Aug 2005,is the number of Pitbulls puppies still available. I have seen ads for "Pitbull stud needed" or "Pitbull stud for hire"...Which is odd considering all Pitbull were to be sterilized by Oct 2005? I know where I am (north of Toronto) they don't seem to even enforce the muzzle requirements much.
lol....some people just don't know what theyre talking about....lol........like about a year ago. I had one of my horses for sale and this lady comes and knocks on my door and she is all freeking out and she says to my dad that why would we have a horse with blue eyes for sale? and my daddy asks her what she's talking about and she's telling him that it was irrisponsible for us to have a blue eyed horse for sale because blue eyed horses are evil adn kill people. and my dad just starts laughing at her and she left.
but it was so strange because she looked like she was serious about horses with blue eyes are phyco and kill people. lol....it even cracked me up.
I have found that the black bigger dogs (& small black terriers), in the rescue I volunteer for, do tend to stick around longer... funny part is they are usually the nicest & most well behaved at all events and foster homes! Even letting young children approach them without a care... Go figure.
I always heard that black dogs were less desirable. When we got our latest rescue Zoey, we chose a female black lab/rottie mix. I thought if I could help save one black dog. As she grows, she does have a fierce look about her. She has these gold eyes and a fierce growl and bark as well. She's a big baby and the sweetest girl ever. She'll be one next month and we have had her since she was six months. Another happy story blossoming. SHe's a great dog.
