Hi there, I am new here and frankly new to the whole dog owner thing. We just adopted a puppy yesterday and we are wondering what the mix is? We know the mama was a yellow lab. We know she mated with a border collie. Some of the pups were black and white, and ours was brown and white. We think she could have mated with a pit mix as well. Is there a way of telling for sure?
The only way to know for certain what kind of mix you have is to have DNA tests done but I think that could be a bit expensive. We have a black Lab that we rescued, when we took him to the vet, he said he was full bloodied but others swear he has Pit in him. We've had him for nearly 3 years and though he has bit one person...the person is a Registered Sex Offender and was being very odd so I think it must have made our dog nervous....he's a pretty good judge of character. Other than that one incident, he has proven to be a wonderful dog. He was starved when we got him and covered in ticks & fleas. He's a beautiful 90 pound, healthy, happy boy now. We have other dogs that are small so he thinks he's a Chihuahua or something like that and surprisingly he never causes any problems with the little ones, if they get into his food he will back away and look at me like he's saying..."Mama, they're eating all my food!" but he's never displayed any kind of food aggression. Your baby is adorable, hope all is going well.
