DoggyDaddy, here is a moronic reason why your dog and mine MIGHT fit the criteria. A local township can include that breed by description in an ordinance -such ordinance may read "Any dog matching the characteristics of being short coated, with Bulldog type appearance - or having an appearance that includes a short muscular type build, flat head or being of a Bull dog type etc..... You see how moronic this is? Without a doubt this all comes down to government policy, and unless everyone is extremely vigilant about this, we could actually end up losing some breeds. That's if we listened to bull@#*& like this. This is the reason for the Pug being on that list, and the Boston. Some stupid pencil pusher sat in an office somewhere and probably looked up dogs with certain characteristics and put them on the list. The rest of the breeds named came from a conglomeration of sources, and ended up on the dreaded list too. When I think about it, it almost makes me laugh because it's so bloody stupid. What is not funny is that it's starting to take effect. It'll be a cold day in hell when someone tells me what dog I can and can't own, that's all I know. Sorry DD, did'nt mean to ruin your day.
I`m very concerned about this. The gentle gaints and everything are on this. If people didn`t start all this crap about pits and their *locking* jaws. And people using them in dog fights they might not be on their!! WAIT !!! EVERY DOG IN THE DNAG WORLD IS ON THE LIST !!
Oh Pen! It's okay, you're forgiven! LOL I agree whole heartedly about this list (and the reasons some breeds are on it) being F#*#ing stupid. Luckily for me, I'm in Canada, so that list doesn't actually apply for me. We do have BSL starting here though - Mostly with Pit bulls - some provinces have added Rottis, but not here in Ontario. Y'all should move up here - we've got tonnes of room for everyone - and a lot of the provinces don't have ANY BSL laws! Besides, our government is kind of a bunch of push-overs, so if they started getting really stupid with BSL, we could all gang up and stop it - probably a lot easier then in the US!
something I did find interesting is where I live, we dont have any BSL at this moment, not that I can find and I did look. HMMMMMM wonder how long I have before it hits, 48 hours ?
and someone tell me why I can't see the new picture I put on my avitar.. I've rebooted and everything and still see puppy in basket. I should see single puppy. GRRRR it's just one of those days I think.
Quote "HA! There's no mixed breeds on the list! I'm safe!!"
I know you are kidding , but some do think that and guess what any mix that has one of the banned breeds opr even resemmbeles one is also included in most of those ordinances
Savannah, the lists are made from many things such as: - Recent dog attacks - a political figure w/ personal experience with a dog bite - media idiocy - myths such as the locking jaw one - people in power with an agenda for whatever reason - people in political office who don't bother to researrch better options
and so on...
I know a coupole of people said they never met a bad Golden. LOL I have a human and dog aggressive one that lives about 5 streets away from me and is one of the worst dogs I've ever met.... That doesn't make the breed bad though just that one screwy dog who also to top it off has irresponsible owners who let her roam out of their yard knowing she has a major genetic flaw in her temperament
Again there is good and bad within every breed and also more importantly even that dog would not really be an issue if her owners were responsible and kept her contained
