My cat, Chiquita, is about 7 years old. A year or two after we got her we got two other cats (a male and a female). Anyway, recently she has taken to peeing in various places in the house. She is spayed and does have a history of urinary tract issues however we don't think her behavior has anything to with that since she has enough time to jump on a couch or position herself in a favorite suitcase before she goes. When we got the younger two cats the female kind of took over the house so it could be a territorial thing. She doesn't do it on a regular basis but she does it often enough to drive us nuts. But regardless of why or when she is doing it what I need to know is: HOW CAN I GET HER TO STOP?!
If this was happening to me I really would do a vet check, history or not.
After the vet check you then can address the problem. I have problems with my Henry marking when he wants to go outside and is not let out. I made a home for him in the spa room that is air climate controlled. It has his bed, food and water and a doggie door that he can go in and out anytime he wants.
He does come into the house only when I'm home and awake other wise I didn't have a choice but to keep him in the spa room. He has never marked in there. Cole spends every minute with him and I'm out there as much as I'm in the house.
I did have another cat years ago that had this problem but it was a health problem and the vet took care of it.
ELM, if you rule out a medical problem, which at this cat's age is a possibility, I know in my experience anyway, that when you start adding cats, the marking rate sems to escalate. I have 5 cats at the moment, and I'm having problems, but I can't figure out who's doing it. The 2 males are both neutered, and 1 female is. I think it's territorial, and to do with sheer numbers, that's just my opinion. Certainly would'nt hurt to check and see if he's got crystals in his urinaary tract, or some other typical male cat problem. Good luck, I know to me there's not much worse than the smell of cat pee.
I have the same problem. 2cats, 1 male, 1female, bought as kittens the same day. Female poops in bathtub when she sees a suitcase and on clothes left on floor (kids), towels, bath mats. We are currently living in the UK and we travel alot. She poops everyday by the front door when we are out of town and our helper in taking care of the cats. Cats fight a lot now and she is the weak one. Vet says she is very depressed and wants a Behaviorist come to the house and observe. I think thats kinda odd and I am so tired of dealing with it I don't know if it would be worth it. It has cost us a ton of money and hassle between moving the liter box, changing food, seperating food, mood mellowers that plug into the wall (that do help a little) but are expensive, Dr. appt. to constantly check for urinary tack, bladder infections. You name it! Any help anyone can if would be great. I am about to get rid of the cat. We rent and can't afford to replace all the carpet.
oranges and lemons.cats hate orange and lemon peel the acidic fruit is a big turn off, alot of people use it on their gardens to stop cats'going'there. if you want to stop it in the house put it in the doorways to stop them going in the rooms you have found accidents in.sprays on linen also help avon do a room and linen spray in lemon and orange sents. non bio washing powder gets rid of cat sent marking all household cleaners have powerful cemicals which actually encourage the cats too go there again.
