So you gave him away so he wouldnt be around nasty diseases... but all the other ones are perfectly fine being around nasty disease because they are not yours?
And yes, as a matter of fact I picked up a dog on the side of the street just the other day. I brought her to the shelter to give her a chance of her owners finding her. I know that I am not ready to start fostering yet. At least I would wait until I was fully prepared before I take in any strays, rescues, or newborn puppies.
And I can remember on one distinct occasion, their was a time when two dogs were running loose and you choose to only pick up the little cute one cuz the "other one looked mean and big" as it was running away from you. It's one thing to adopt them out just to cover your expensives.. then it is making a profit like you do.
You might want to do a bit more research before one of your pocket-lining pups are just another mistake...
It is because of knowing alldogslover's "rescue" ethics that people reply in the way that they do. I understand that newer members do not know about her ethics and with the board having been re-vamped, I doubt if we could even find it to look it up.
Just do take into consideration that there is a reason that people are saying the things they are saying, and it's not based on meanness but on the OP's own past posts. I remember well because it was disturbing. I'm not saying I'd hope that you wouldn't be friendly to the person just because of things that others say-- by all means, go for it-- but you may want to either search old posts or just consider that the whole story is not in this post before you loudly declare how unjust others are being.Defending the underdog can be a good thing, but one might want to make sure she knows that which she rushes to defend.
I could pick up a small poodle mix from the public, say on the side of the road or in my neighborhood, and give him a bath and a clip and sell him for $250, or "bail out" a cute, small easy-to-place dog from the pound, again, bathe and groom him-- BAM, $250! Would this be honorable? Absolutely not! That dog could have belonged to someone, and the one at the pound had a huge chance of being adopted from there, ask anyone who has gone to the pound to get a toy breed. However, it would be profitable. Almost like free money.
"Be who you are and say what you feel. Because those that matter, don't mind...And those that mind....don't matter."
ok I have to say haven't been here long enough for the back ground, but after reading the posts a suggestion for the OP would be to volunteer for an actual rescue organization. After a home inspection & evaluation many organizations are more than happy to provide information such as seperation ideas/advice, feeding techniques, and even provide crates for when you are not at home to supervise.
The OP may find that rescue organizations are a great resource as they take the time to provide helpful info that may stop an incidence before it occurs & even go so far as to provide for the medical expenses (such as pull fees, temperment testing, spay/neteuter, shots, & even special food donations). This would allow the OP to still do a great thing but maybe on a level that they can handle.
I agree with the suggestion to volunteer. If i had the time I so would do that. I have pups at my home that I wouldn't give up for the world. They are my babies and I love them to the fullest!! But my heart goes out to those babies sitting in the shelters with no one to love them and take care of them. If i could recue them all I would but i'm not able to do that. I donate money to the shelters as well and food and beds and things like that. So i can see where the OP might want to consider working as a volunteer that way she might feel more content knowing that she is truley making a difference and not so much an easy buck. (no offense) But I do agree with Pen2 as well. They jumped up oneside and down the other for just a simple opinion being voiced. That's wrong. That's not what this forum is about. It's a place for help, and advice and support not hate and rudeness and tearing people down. That's not right at all. If you don't like the opinion that fine, to each his own but you don't have to go and attack that person for voicing his/hers. No one claims to be all knowing on here, that's why we come...to get advice from other's who might be going or have gone through what we are. Breeders and owners and vets alike. We are all here for the reason being to talk to others that can help us out. I'm not claiming to know what's going on w/this particular person, all I know is that there are certain people who don't respect her actions and that is in a way understandable. But please don't hate on others for simply voicing an opinion. Because it's like the old saying goes..... Opinions are like @$$holes...everyones got 'em!!! LOL!!!!!!!! :)
No, it would'nt BlueDixie, but apparently there is so much that we don't know, and are not likely to be told about this OP, that it's pointless asking questions about it. You can't ask a simple question on this forum without being reprimanded, so give up.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "I'm an animal rescue" when in fact they are border line animal horders. A true rescue organization is a 501(c)3 organiztion run on donations, volunteers, and adoption fees. A lot of times expenses are out of pocket from organizers. Reason being a true animal rescue take on these responsibilities:
Spay/Neuter (depending on sex) Food for adult animals Specialized food for newborns All vaccinations plus boosters Micro-chip implant & registration Blood tests Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS tests for cats Heart-worm, valley fever testing on dogs Emergency treatment for the animals Intravenous (IV) fluids for the animals Treatment for illness, infections, injuries, or parasites (fleas, worms, etc.) Medication for infections and illnesses Treatments for cancer, diabetes, and liver disease Eye, Ear, and Dental care Grooming Finding Good Homes
As you can see expenses can exceed most adoption fee. But if you run a rescue without providing the necessary care and charge huge fees, that would be considered taxable income. And most reputable rescue would not compromise their own personal pet for a rescue. If you ensure the health of your rescues then it's easy to keep them all healthy. Once in awhile the unfortunate happens.
This is an open forum oscarsmom... good luck on telling people how to respond on her... geesh. What are we, the new TP Patrol? I see on about every post you make you are trying to tell everyone what their opinions should be.
You dont agree with a way that someone responds to this OP, get over it. Alot of us have been on a heck of alot longer than yall have been. Trollies come back and try to get "oh pity the victim here" and the cycle just continues.
OP should put flyers around that any free roaming dogs are up for grabs, and not likely to be seen again.
There are a lot of people on this forum and each has their own opinion and take on a situation. I don't know 2 people on here that have agreed with each other 100% and really that's what makes this site so much fun. If you didn't enjoy it you wouldn't be posting ALL DAY - EVERY DAY!!!
just reading this thread as it continues.. VERY interesting Leo. Thanks for posting that!!! I think it's really fair and a valid point that those of us fairly new around here, dont have a clue as to the history in any given discussion that has continued for year(s). I also think it's true.. getting 2 people to always agree NOT LOLOLOL
Merico- I WAS NOT telling anyone what or how to think. I WAS NOT telling anyone what there opinions should be. I was simply stating that everyone has a right to an opinion and not all of us are going to agree. That's a fact. BUT I was stating that there's no need to bash someone b/c they have a different opinion that you do. I'm not trying to start an argument or fight or drop down to the high school level crap with you or anyone else on here. All I was doing was voicing MY OPINION!!!! So don't bash me or whatever just because my opinion was not the same as yours. I have actually stayed nuetral to this whole long drama filled post and all i did was take up for someone who got there @$$ handed to them on a platter for simply having a voice in here. And no....i don't post ALL DAY EVERYDAY....some of have a life. I work and when I get a break or caught up i check and post. Usually it's because I have a question and instead of calling my vet all the time I find it just as helpful to post a question on here and see what everyone else says. Didn't mean to piss you off...start a fight....get childish with this whole thing. That was not my intentions at all.
Oh and thank you Leo. I feel better educated on the OP's past. I'll still not make any comments for fear of being attacked again. But I do feel like i understand where these people are coming from. Thank you again!!!
And to luvmypugglebaby-yes i do enjoy posting on here. It is very informative and most people and the information given by them are great!!! I didn't say i didn't enjoy being on here...i just don't enjoy seeing people get chewed out for an opinion that might not be just like someone elses. I do agree that getting more than one person to have the same opinion is NOT goig to happen. I'm not trying to make it happen at all. I guess i'm just a lover not a hater. I hate arguing and rudeness and being hateful. That's what I don't agree with. People that see that (especially newbies like me) can be really hesitant to post anything on here for fear of being bashed down and made to feel like a [email protected]$$. I know you all have been here longer than me. It's you senior and full members that I look to for advice when i come here to help me when i have a question. Not to make fun of me and make me feel stupid for asking for help. SO..too whomever I may have offended...i'm sorry...it was not my intention to start another battle of the keyboard words!!! I hope you all have a great day, and a great weekend!!! :)
