We have a 4 month old shizu named Abby, me and my wife both work long hours and 11 yr old daughter is the one trying to do the potty training. We have a crate and have been trying to make it work but haveing no luck. Abby is taken outside alot to go potty, if she doesnt go shes back in crate for a bit then try again and when she does go shes allowed out to play and such for a while. The problem is she will go outside then come in and pee again. We have seperated the house so she doesnt have full roam, she has the kitchen and front room to play. At night she wiill pee and poop in her crate even if we get up at 2 am and take her out. She is on a schedule with food and food/water is removed after 5pm. I have been reading up on the litter box training and with kids going back to school we need to do something! help pls
we also reward her when going outside and praise her, and when she goes inside we have tryed clapping and say NO-OUTSIDE, and slamming a newspaper on the floor near her but nothing is working, thanks in advance
You are doing all of the right things. You are well on your way. Most dogs are not potty trained completely until 6 months or longer. You may also benefit from feeding her on a schedule that way you know when she will poop. Most puppies will pee and then pee again within 10 to 15 minutes. It is a normal thing. Potty training is hard. It is usually you who is trained, not your dog, for the first few months.
