Any dog can be good in a crate for a few hours. As for Papillons, I think their a little yappy. Thats my opinion. What were you wanting to know? I think their wonderful dogs. I almost got one a few years back, for some reason I chose a Chihuahua..:P Grooming isn't bad at all, in my opinion. I'm the kind of person that likes to spend hours on grooming because its calming and soothing to me. Papillons by no means need any where that amount of time spent on grooming them. I'm going to say once or twice a week for grooming them. No more than an hour each, if you do everything you could to groom them(bath included). I know if you have children they have to be older, OR, they have to be good around animals and know how to treat them. I never had an issue with that personally. They can be good with other animals. They come in a variety of colors, as I'm sure you know. What'd you want to know?
I do not have one, but LOVE the breed. They do have the reputation of being yappy as the other posted stated. I guess that is why so many are debarked. I how ever do not believe in debarking a dog. A dogs voice should never be taken away. JMO. The ones I have spent time around are great little dogs. Just make sure you find a good and reputable breeder. I love watching this little guys do agility. They ROCK.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
Since my neighbor got a pap-chi mix, all my experiences with the breed (or half-breed) are negative. Yappy, piercing bark, aggressive, and nippy. I'm looking forward to meeting a pap that will cancel out my current bad experience...
I used to do grooming for a hobby breeder who had Papillons. They are small, fragile and not very bright. But they are darling looking, easy to groom and have a tremendous desire to please. They are true companion animals and do not like to be ignored or left alone. They are yappy. They're supposed to be yappy, because they were bred from little watchdogs.
I've seen them in competition obedience. They are really good, especially with the jumps. However these dogs MUST be smarter than the ones I took care of.
I also saw a tv program about a Papillion who was a service dog for a Little Person with joint problems. This dog was truly amazing, fetching, helping with laundry, turning lights on and off, bracing the woman so she could do gardening.
Go to a dog show or breeder to see what they're like. And get the best dog you can afford, it'll be worth it.
My sister has one. Louie is very smart and has all the energy you could want in a dog.He is black and white, and goes everywhere she goes. She doesn't have to groom him alot his coat always looks like she just brushed him.
