Ok so lets try this again. A little frustrated after my first reply magically vanished". Here goes, - recommend doing some research on wikipedia for Giardia or Giardia Lamblia. Notice half way down it mentions the fact that tis drug is a know carcinogen (cancer causing) in mice. Isn't this the same first that dr's use in trying to find cures for humans? Doesn't the chain go Mice, Rats, Ferrets, Pigs, Monkeys then humans? If anything is carcinogic in any animal why chance it on another? Another issu eI have is if yu read other post on this very topic they are al pretty bastardizing towards the ill effects / potentials for this drug. Honestly I am a little user at the fact my vet prescribed this and to be honest will now be looking for another vet. One that does his homework ahead of time. My dogs life is second to my wife and my own. Why wouldn't you do a little research and spend a little time? Don't just blindly trust - thousands of humans die every year due to malpractice. How many more from vets malpractice? Yet you can't sue the same way you can for human life. Sad to say. So please do your research - start w/ other comments on here and go to Wikipedia for Giardia as I mentioned = educate yourself - you're little one will thank you with more years of unconditional love. Sounds much better than helping some CEO somewhere make another payment on his porche doesn't it?
PS - If you can't tell, I am definitely discontinuing his medication as there are clearly better more natural ways to do this - just hidden by the "major payers and players". Horrible!
I was just given Metronidazole for my dog. She has been sick and vomiting for a couple days. Vet said I should see improvement in 48 hours. But I can't get her to get up and go potty. She just wants to sleep (has been sleeping for about 3 hours now) How long should I let her sleep before making her go out?
My dog had an anal infection and diareah she also has a bladder infection that they found later. They put her on Metronidazole at first but they called the next day and put her on Sulfamethoxazole in addition. For the blood in her bladder. She finally pooped after 3 days and it looked painful for her. It was so tough that I had to take a bag and pull it out, It was like gum (I know TMI) She is now not eating, lethargic and looks trashed. Today was the last day of the Methronidazole, but she still has a week of the Sulfamethoxazole . I am not sure what to do to help her belly. I have to add that her vet died suddenly that knew her issues and now there is a different vet everyday of the week there and they all have different answers. Although you do not have all her history, I need assistance and knowledge to help me find something that is appealing to eat to help her poop come out better. I think she would feel better after that (she is only 3 1/2)
