He does not have worms in his stool, so I dont know what is the problem

have you tried soaking his food in warm water. it could be his teeth hurt. I am not real sure if that is it. I have never had a dog that wouldn't eat.

How old was your pup when you took him home?

Did you ask the person you got the pup from, what they were feeding?

What have you tried already? Wet/dry?

Do you give your dog treats throughout the day?

He could have pain or he could just be very picky eater.

I recommend that you try wet food if you have not already. Try different brands. My dog is also VERY picky but he will eat wet food most of the time. If there is a treat or human food (bit of cheese, meat, etc.) that your dog will eat readily, you can put a small bit of that on top of the food or mix in.

Honestly, it could be the summer heat. In our area, the weather has been in the 100s for days on end. Both my dogs are seriously off their food.

How old is this dog? Is she just nibbling, but not finishing her bowl in 1 sitting? What kind of food are you feeding? Do you baby talk her when she eats? If so, stop, you are probably making things worse. Put the food down, show her where it is and leave it at that.

As long as she is eating something, and drinking I personally wouldn't think any health problems, unless her over all energy level is way down. A trip to the vet may be in store if she's acting lethargic all around. However, some dogs just don't eat a lot, or eat a few kibbles every now and then through out the whole day.

To answer all questions.

I took him home at 11.5 weeks. He is 3.5 months. The breeder gave me a high quality royal canin food he was eating. He does not get treats during the day. Oly micro tid bits for training and that may amount to a thumb nail in total and that is usually after he eats not before.


YESSSSS I baby talk him and all the time and SIT with him to see if he eats, also try to spoon it for him.

I feed him any of the following

High quality dry kibbles which he grew up on after his mother weaned him.

So Kibbles Royal Canin
Canned Hills science plan puppy
Other store brands soft chicken, beef, liver, turkey
partially scrambled eggs which he might eat
cottage cheese which he was eating there for a while
RAW fresh butcher ground beef which he ate one day adn not again
I mix his dry with say the beef, he eats beef spits out kibbles LOL
I just bought another french brand kibble that is very good, he played with some of it.

I do lift and cuddle him a lot, I try to resist but he is so adroable so I am babying him a lot I know and want to stop but dont want him to get mad at me for doing that.

I made him home made liver ground up he sniffed and walked away LOL
should i just leave his kibbles there and never offer him anything else?

Yesterday I threw away loads of food he turned his nose up for. Poms are generally picky eaters but lord this is the pits.

Oh, he has been to the vet two times and they said he is not sick. His stool is fine WHEN he does have a bm, and urine output it good. He is full of energy and God knows where it is coming from cuz he is not eating. I was not leaving kibbles out all the time but I have started as teh breeder gave me a schedule to feed him which so far, has failed.

We are in Europe so it is cool here not hot.

Yeah I have to say if you are babying him as much as it sounds like you are (and you sound like you are doing it a LOT), you need to resist it when he is trying to eat, don't try to spoon feed him or even get near him when he eats. Pick a quality kibble food that you've seen him eat (not just ground beef either, you want a balanced diet and nothing but ground beef or liver do not give your dog that).

Put the food down, walk into the other room if you have to, pick up the newspaper or a magazine and read it, just do something to keep yourself busy. Don't make a fuss when he doesn't eat either. It sounds like he is getting more than enough food to get by, and if he's a pom he doens't need a lot of food anyway. I have a friend that has a 12 pound (5.4kg) pom mix that only easts 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of food a day (which is a tiny amount!) and any more than that he gets fat!

I know you are just trying to do what is best for your baby, but honestly, you are helping turn him into a picky eater, and allowing your life to be controlled by a dog that weighs less than a soccer ball I bet. Suck it up, stop giving into those baby brown eyes and just put the food down and leave it. When he is hungry, he will eat.

Am I saying you can't baby your dog? Of course not! Baby him all you want when he isn't around his food dish! But don't talk to him about his food (as in, "Aww Rocky, why didn't you eat? Doesn't wubsums wuv his food?"). And don't interrupt him, even to praise him, when he eats.

If your dog is healthy, he won't starve himself. If he's hungry he'll eat! Leave food out and leave him alone! Of course we all love puppies and we want to hold them and love on them, but that should only left for the right time and place....not during meal time.

I have one dog that will snarf down her food the moment I drop it in her bowl. I could never let her self feed. She would eat until she was sick! I have another dog that prefers to pick at her food throughout the day. Many times I set food in front of her and I used to think she was snubbing it, but really she was eating all day long...only very small bites at a time. I feed the fast eater twice a day and the slow eater once a day because the slow eater makes it last all day. Wouldn't it be nice if we all had that much self control?!?!

Quit worrying! Let your dog learn to pace his consumption on his own. He will! Good luck!

my pom use to do the same thing. Then she'd change her mind on her favorite food and want something else and wouldn't eat anything till we figured it out.

Is anyone else slipping her food???

When she'd do this we'd just stop giving her anything and only let her have kibbles. She has the oportunity to eat. Just watch her weight. My pom wouldn't eat when it got hot but she'd pack it on before winter. I think she will be fine. We would keep frozen chicken stock in the freezer to put on her kibbles and she'd always eat that but not all the time.

No, nobody else feeds HIM, its a him not a her :). And on top of it, I weight my food that I serve including kibbles, sometimes a day passes and not one kibble is missing.

He wont eat soft, hard or medium, he wont eat anythig today. Has not eaten since 11am yesterday, he has refused last night's dinner, this morning, then 11 meals. I have done everything, put stock on the kibles, give it hard everything. I am losing my mind. HE wont even drink his water more than 2ml a whole day. He pees maybe two times. This cant be normal

I dont think the peeing only 2x a day is normal since my 13 week old maltese pees tons a day.
He also eats not a alot but also eats royal caine- But being so small they dont need alot of food,
plus my litlte guy is a food hound and will search out every treat my other dogs have left behind. lol
You really should call your vet again and tell him he isnt peeing but 2x a day, just compaired to my 2.3 pound puppy this isnt normal at all.

My older dogs (daisy is 1 year old and Bentley is 1 year and 7 months) but they will hold out for days it seems with not eating their food, but of coarse they get treats so i think they wait on that, but vet told me its normal and they wont starve themselfs, i have a bowl of hard kibble out at all times, and now it seems they are eating Louies puppy food which is fine with me, better then cat food they seem to wait for..lol
good luck and do call the vet and tell him about your little guy not peeing regularly. i could be wrong about that not being normal but i dont see how it could be-

If he's not eating or drinking, something is wrong. Find a new vet.

When my Gretchen had dog flu, she went on a hunger strike. Someone suggested Bil Jac that you buy in the frozen food section at Walmart, it was $$$$$ but she did eat it, and when she recovered, went back to her regular Kirkland's.And yes do give the b complex shots.Great appetite stimulator.

I am home cooking, sometimes he will eat it sometimes not. He takes a tablet of Bcomplex the shot are 20 a shot and it gets a bit expensive for a one day appetite booster. the pills work pretty ok. he is 4.5 months and I read about him, at this age 17 weeks and up he starts to eat less and not want as much, so I may be panicking too much. He ate some this morning, then some cottage cheese, then a few kibbles, he really is not into the kibbles at all. he will eat it when he feels, but to feed it as his meal he wont touch it, because he knows mommy is fixing something more appealing. I think the molers coming out has to do with it and maybe his gums are hurting, because when I put my fingers in his mouth he allows it with pleasure, so he must be like a child cutting teeth and in some pain. He woofed down his meat porridge tonight :). I am not going to worry too much anymore as the list from the breeder said at this time he eats less. And when he refuses something he starves til morning then he will woof it down LOL
