Louie is a 12 week old maltese. Hes very playful but he bites Daisy and Bentley and hard to. Louie bites our toes and hands and will lunge at your face and just a biter. We call him the perana (sp) Weve tried the yelp letting him know hes biting to hard but it doesnt even phase him. Louie bites hard on Daisys ears and tail and wont let go when i try to get him off her. Daisy doesnt yelp like it hurts but i know how hard he bites us so i know it has to hurt. So weve tried the ignoring him and putting on floor and walking away. BUt how can i do this with Daisy and Bentley? when he bites them?? I thought Daisy and Bentley would teach him that he bites to hard and hes still so young im sure he will catch on but i didnt have this problem with the other dogs. They would bite but not hard, and Louies teeth are sharp hes drawn blood a few times on my hand. Louie is very smart pup tho, hes already potty pad trained and goes to that pad every single time. Im amazed that he caught on so fast, We have had Louie for just over a week so were all still new to him but i dont want this biting to get worse or not correct it now before he does get older. anyone have any idea on what i can do to nip this in the butt now and not let it go on and get worse? If i remember right when Daisy went thrw this when she was a pup ( but never bite this hard ever) Bentley would nip at her and taught her she was to rough and i hoped that Daisy and Bentley would teach Louie but can i depend on that to happen? I feel bad that they have to be bit on by Louie- Theresa
No i havent done any classes with Louie hes only 12 weeks old and i have had him a little over a week- Daisy and Bentley never bit hard like this and Louie is like Cujo its our nick name for him- he will run after you with his mouth open chomping at you- it funny to see but not funny because its a problem. Do you think being this young a water bottle woudl work? I have tapped him on his nose and said no bite- and did the ouch very loud and it doesnt phase him. Ive put him down and not played with him but then what do i do when hes biting on Daisy and Bentley and they let him do it and i know hes biting to hard, I cant stop the dogs from playing with him. I only hope that Daisy and Bentley will teach him not to bite but so far no luck. Bentley doesnt really play with Louie and im sure its because hes so rough. Why do puppies bite so hard? wow- he goes crazy when you hold him and hes tring to bite your face or anything he can get to- Hes playing of coarse but its going to get out of control if i dont find a way to stop it now-
I'm not sure but a water bottle is worth a try. 12 weeks old, yes, I wouldn't let him bite either.
Hopefully someone else can give you more advice. To bad you can't put bitter apple on every one so when he bites he gets a mouth full of bitter. LOL Hey spray your hands or what ever he is biting, it's worth a try.
He is challenging the roles in your house. He is learning Daisy and Bentley are push overs at this point now he is testing you for weakness. Stay firm with him and monitor play time.
Scruff him, Put him in his place.. Make him sit and chill out. It's sort of the same idea as when you get the attention of a little kid by grabbing their hand and leading them firmly and quickly with a tone so they know you mean business.
Tabasco sauce if he nips at your family. You have to teach him how to have a soft mouth when he's playing. Tell him "Do nice." or whatever command you'd like in the same tone as the scruffing. Then, if he keeps it up like it is a game, a dab of it on your pinky finger then smear it in his mouth. He'll get the idea.
A good relationship with your dog is them knowing when it is time to love on them or play, and when it is time to park it and listen to mom.
Advice is probably the only free thing which people won't take.
I know what you mean about the biting. Kayla wants to constantly lick your face but she will bite your feet and hands something horrible. She keeps Mandy on the couch and Tina under the bed or hiding somewhere else.
Pope- whats scruffing? How do i do this? Im on line trying to find out anything i can do to try to get Louie to calm down and not be so spazzy- he goes crazy running after the dogs and me and hubby and kids just bitting away- I have said owwww but it doesnt even phase him. I try to hold him and he goes all crazy and bites and wiggles out of my hands well trys to at least. and also hes biting our faces ect- Im going to try the bitter apple and see if it will work. can i put it on Bentley and Daisys ears?/lol Louie is so playful and wants to play hard. Hes the cutest thing ever and hes so tiny but those teeth are like little knives- it hurts.. I gotta do something before he gets older and thinking this if fine to do. we do ignore him and put our feet up so he cant bite us and i try to keep daisy and bentley away from him also - I didnt go threw this with the other 2 . what makes a puppy decide if they are going to be vicous or not?lol
I think Daisy gets him rilied up to tho, like right now Daisy has him pined down and playing with him and Louie is going crazy. What is this behavoir called? so i can read about it on line some where? i gotta find out everything i can do now to stop this. I dont even like taking him on walks with us in the evenings because he will run up behind Daisy or Bentley and start biting their butts or attacking them by jumping on their back ect- hes to small so he doesnt get on their back but he sure trys tho
Today is Daisys 1st bday-- She got some new toys and is a happy girl today. Shes very greedy with her toys and treats, she growlings and will take it from the other 2- no one can touch her stuff...lol she will nip at them - she has never done that to us i dont think she would i hope anyways-
Scruffing is how mother dogs pick up the puppies by the excess skin on the back of their neck. It doesn't hurt the dog, if anything it puts them in a calm state.
Depending on the behavior, you might also add a little shake (nothing over board) to it as well as a low tone correction, that is also one of the ways the mother would correct them if they got out of hand.
Happiness doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it just means that you have decided to look past the imperfections.
pope i will try that next time Louie is all crazy- Trying the water bottle and it seems to calm him down in a hurry when hes going biserk- Why tho do some puppies act this way and some dont? Is it the breed? Either one of my other dogs were like this so this is all new to me. I just want to stop this behavoir now before he gets set in his ways. Louie is a loving little pup but just gets so wild and crazy that you cant calm him down and hes attacking anything that walks by him, I dont thiknk at all he means to hurt anyone hes just playing and im now thinking maybe he wanst with his mom for as long as he should of been? doenst the mother teach them not to bite hard ect?? I never asked really how old the pup was when my aunt got him i knew she had him a week maybe . But he isnt timid or shy or scared which is good. I will try the scruffing when he flips out again which will be in a few minutues im sure..lol
