I have a chihuahua that will be 4 months old at the end of the month.I know she is a puppy but good gosh she is eating my house up.She ate the back of my recliner leg then she ate a whole in my carpet padding and all and then started on my wall.I have a crate and I crated her but no good does that do she starts all over again.I give her toys and she tears the stuffing out.any help.I know she is a puppy and the do chew.thanks
give her some nylabones or something that she cannot "destroy" per say, but can chew up.
keep crating her when you are away and when you catch her on a naughty streak at home, firmly tell her not and divert her attention to something she can chew on, the nylabone or one of her toys. reward her when she chews on "her things" and tell her no when she chews on your things.
Changed my screen name from scenicvalesiberians to weimngolden, heads up.
If your puppy does this while you're gone she may be suffering from separation anxiety. If she's doing it just for the sake of something to do, she may be board. Little pups have an awful amount of energy and if they can't get rid of it they'll be very creative in working off their energy in the way of home destruction.
Try exercising pup a little more with walks and play. A happy pup is a tired pup. Crate your pup when you're not there because of the obvious. Don't crate her as a way of punishment. She should view the crate as a positive place of rest and contentment.
Eventually with more exercise this bad behavior will cease.
