Her milk is in... I thought that as a first time mom she would only get it in right before labor began??? This is now the second day she has milk. Not leaking as far as I can tell but expressable... Also, all day her temp has been at 99.3, but just went back to 100.2 ?? Any thoughts???
Serene is correct and I've also had girls have milk 5/6 days prior to whelp. Also the opposite, no milk until pups start nursing. With the temp fluxuating that much and into 100 again, most probably have a bit of time still. It's normal for the fluxuation but you want to see it fluxuate in the 98's low 99. "98" is whelp but that varies like everything else. Is she nesting yet??? Let us know, GL
Also, I thought I saw three contractions sporadically throughout the day today. Best way I can describe it was a huge ripple that went across her entire belly. That was once and then two minor ripples. Do contractions start sporadically?
it depends what you mean by the word Sporadic. If you mean can there be a contraction or 2 and another few an hour/2 later, yes that can definitely happen. And they can start out "light" and then become heavy hard contractions. All dogs are different and you may experience something different too, but basically.....
I saw what I thought were three contractions yesterday and then nothing. I didn't know if they can have "prelabor" contractions. Other than the 1 temp at 100.0 yesterday, she was 99.5 all day yesterday and 99.7 holding steady all day today. She also has only eaten maybe a cup full of food yesterday and one cup today. I just don't want her to have a problem or maybe I am looking for things???? I don't know?
lol yep you're looking for things but that's typical when you're nervous about this. Her temp needs to come down more and she needs to show more signs. She's not there yet.. not based on what I'm reading anyway :-)
Just and update...Her temp has been holding steady at around 99.5 since Saturday, She hasn't eaten since Sunday evening, her milk is in.....Still NO Contractions today! Oh and puppies were ACTIVE yesterday evening! Any thoughts??
Some times the active movement is puppies getting themselves lined up for movement into the birth canal. You just have to wait for nature to take its coarse. Don't feel alone. I am waiting for an arrival myself. I have not taken her temp, but my girl did not finish her food yesterday. She did eat a few scrambled eggs that I had to hand feed her spoiled self. She is sleeping on the kitchen floor, and ever now and again goes into her box and digs around. I think I got a couple of more days. Want to race and see who get's pups first. LOL

So she refused her food this morning? Dang I was off a few hours. LOL If she has refused her food she could be in early labor. Is she just laying around? Wanting you right there next to her? My girls follow me from room to room in early labor. Early labor can take hours. I have had a bitch in early labor that lasted 14 hrs. Talk about a long day. At this stage ahe will do a lot of resting. Now is the time to get your whelping supplies ready. Don't forget the camera and pen and paper to record each birth. The next stage is nesting (digging her blankets), panting and unable to get comfortable. He eyes will begin to dilate and she will have a blank stare. Contractions are hard to tell at this point. Waiting another couple of hours. Stage 3 is heavy contractions and the birth of pups.
Life isn't like a box of chocolates . . it's more like a jar of jalapenos. What you do today, might burn your rump tomorrow
serene, yes she's been laying around - what else is new - LOL! But last night she was CONSTANTLY with me, if I was washing dishes, she was at my feet, if I was on the computer she was at my feet.... Hopefully, it will be soon!
