I have two very sweet and loving blacklabs. Brother and sister, Zena and Zeus, 3 years old and both are fixed. Zeus was the runt and he sufferes from EIC (exercise intolerance and collapse). He has never been a mean or aggressive dog but does require much more attention than his sister Zena, which she knows and is fine with. I was walking them both last night, and while walking, my neighbor had her 6 month old golden retriever puppy (girl) and her children walking as well. Zeus and Zena have played with this puppy before and have always been so gentle. I don't know what happened but Zeus pulled on his leash so hard I couldn't hold him and he lunged ont top of the puppy and would not stop. I grabbed his leash and pulled him off with all my might and scolded him. I have no idea why he did this, he has never behaved in this manner before. He didn't bite her but if I wuoldn't have pulled him off he was going right for her face!!!! What happened????
i have no clue what happened. However, in my opinion a responsible owner does not walk dogs that he/she does not have the strength to control. Obviously, we hope all dogs are trained well enough that they won't have to be restrained, but as owners we have to be able to restrain if necessary.
I know this doesn't answer your question and I'm not trying to flame you, but please seriously consider walking your dogs seperately if that will help you control them better.
