Hi, I'm new to this site, but realy need some help. My husband and I recently bought a condo (not having lived in anything without a backyard before). So, we decided to get a beagle puppy (also, we've never had a beagle before). She is almost 5 months old now, we've had her for 3. But I just can't seem to get her potty trained. We're trying to train her to go on the pads, since she can't go outside, but it has been a disaster. Also, she's got seperation anxiety, and crate training failed miserably. She will howl non-stop for hours on end and when you finally take her to the pad, she's too excited to go. I have tried everything I could think off, took her to puppy training classes but that didn't help the problem.
Please, pretty please, I need some advise here... I just don't know what to do anymore.
How long is your puppy left alone during the day? Also, it always pays to carefully research everything you could possibly learn about a breed before you decide to bring it home. Beagles are not necessarily the best choice for a condo since they are VERY vocal. Howling is their normal form of expression. One of our two beagles ended up being adopted by us because his former owner figured out beagles aren't good condo dogs (unfortunately his neighbors figured it out too). Also, they are scent hounds and they thrive on being able to go outside and explore through sniffing every square foot of their yard. They need alot of time going for walks outside otherwise you will quickly notice the high energy results you seem to be experiencing.
