I have a 5.8 lb. toy poodle. She just went into heat. I have a friend who has an 8-month-old Yorkie male who weighs 5.2 lbs. Is the male too big? Is he too young? I've never bred dogs. I need help.

hi well he is young, the possibility is that his semen wont work,cuz hes not an adult. You may always try. I bred dogs for years and its happended before with very young boys. I hope I helped =)

Post this in DOG medical questions. this is a section for hamsters rabbits and such not small DOGS.
YOUR DOG IS WAY TO YOUNG TO BE BREEDING! DO NOT BREED YOUR DOGS UNTILL YOU DO MORE RESEARCH ON THE WHOLE PROCESS.
I prefur to have my Bordeaux with fur instead of a cork and bottle ;)

Both dogs are far too young, and if you breed your female you could easily lose her. Don't even think about breeding dogs unless you know what you're doing, as you obviously don't.

Not trying to be unfriendly, but first everytime you breed your female you put her life at risk. And the smaller the dog the greater the risk. Then there is the question of why would you want to breed a poodle with a Yorkie. If it is truely a nice poodle, you would be better off to find a suitable male poodle to mate her too.
Then both dogs should have a brucellous test prior to breeding. Dogs can get sexually transmitted dieases and render them sterile.
The whole purpose of breeding is to improve upon what you already have. So you have to ask yourself will this mating do that? Or is the mating being done just because you can? Also think of the future, the time and commitment to raising a litter of pups. YOu have to honestly ask yourself do you have the time to commit to this? If something should happen to the female during delivery of these pups are you able to commit to bottle or at worst tube feed them every 2 hours around the clock for the first two weeks. And if that should happen, do you know how to insert a feeding tube? Because I can assure you the vet is not going to do it for you.
Just make sure you really think this through before going ahead with the mating. While breeding dogs can bring great joy, it can also bring heartaches.

Melo. how old is your dog? What health tests have you done on her? You don't like the answers we gave you, but that's because we're breeders, and we know only to well what can happen even if everything looks perfect.

Way to go! You had someone here asking legit questions and you go and insult her. I'm sure she won't make the same mistake again of coming here and asking for help.
While I do not disagree with the information you gave her, you came across as mean, Mean, MEAN. You can be helpful without being hateful.
I keep hoping that when someone comes here to ask for help, everyone will be nicer, but it seems that is too much to hope for.

First of all, I'm very sorry to have come across so harshly. That was not my intention, but I see more than one person thinks so, and yes, it's rude of me and I apologize to Melo. I did'nt intend to be mean, and could have posted the same information in a much nicer fashion.

Its not mean to tell it like it is. This kid or person has absolutely no business breeding. He/She hasn't got a clue. Melo, there's so much more to breeding than you realize. You can kill your dog, I'm sure you don't want that. Leave it up to people with experience and get your dog fixed.

Wait? You want to breed a Toy Poodle with a Yorkie? I dont want to be rude but why? If she is a purebred Toy Poodle and you are looking to sell the pups when they get older then why not breed with a purebred Toy Poodle so they are acually worth money and dont cause more over population than we already have when they dont sell? But then again i cant say they wont sell because people are wanting more and more "designer breedss".

And yea i agree with alot of people she and he are WAY to young to be breeding!

It's pretty pathetic that someone comes in here asking a simple question about her dogs and as soon as the word "breeding" comes into play, forum cyber bullies come in and bash and trash her! What the heck is wrong with you people? How about just answer the darned questions and stop trashing people.

Do you guys ever look at the date of the original post? This was posted back in August. If they did breed there dog, I am sure if they had pups, they are born and living in there new homes by now. PLEASE READ THE DATES BEFORE YOU POST. LETS KEEP THE FORUM FRESH AND UP TO DATE.
