I had a bad fall off of a horse, the horse took off galloping and I had no Irons to keep my balance, because I'm trying to get more leg strength, but as the horse took off he made a very sharp turn, I lost my balance and started to fall, to try and catch myself, I put my arms around the horses neck, but then my feet were touching the ground, and I got in the way of his front feet, he stepped on my legs and then fell on me, I just don't understand why I never let go, my instructor said I would have probably been fine if I did let go, but anyways, I have a big open gash on my leg from getting stepped on, my legs, one of my arms, are all really bruised up bad, so I can hardly walk on one of my legs, and since I got the stitches, I'm supposed to take antibiotics to keep me from getting an infection in my leg, but I can't even swallow the pill, and I don't really have any other choices, I have tried putting the pill in ice cream and swalling it, but then I ended up swallowing the ice cream and never the pill, i just stuck to my tongue, I tried taking huge gulps of water and putting the pill in the back of my tongue, and I have tried these things sooooo many times, until the pills are all mushy and the powder starts coming out of them, so I get new ones and try it again, no luck, please if you have some really good technique in swallowing pills and not being afraid of it, please, please help me, I don't want my leg to get infected. Everybody was really surprised that I never broke my bones or anything, especially if a 1000-2000 pound horse falls on you and pushes up off you to stand up, I know this wasn't the horse fault it simply was mine, I practically tripped him, and it makes me sick just thinking about it. When the horse took off galloping he had gotten spooked by something, and then it had happened so fast that I hardly even remember the rest. Please pray that I somehow will find a way to swallow the pill, or I will be able to get a liquid antibiotic, if they even have one, or if I can't seem to get the pill down, please pray my leg doesn't get infected.

Im great with pills, yeah thats something I should brag about LOL.

Anyway there are times i have needed to take more then 4 pills a day. well instead of taking them one by one I started taking them all at the same time. So this is what i do when im taking a bunch of pills or a large one.

Take a big drink of water, tilt your head back, dropthe pill in your mouth and open your throught. the pill should just slide down with the water.

If that dont work ask your dr if you cam smash the pills, If you smash the pill you can fill your mouth with water dump the smashed bits in and swalow then drink more water real fast to get the taste out of your mouth.

When i was a kid I had a hard time taking pills. I put butter on it and it seemed to just slide down.

I know this sounds crazy but I take a big gulp of ginger ale (or other soda), swish it in my mouth, insert the pill(s) and swallow it all together. I then eat something (fruit, cracker, etc) to get rid of the feeling that I just took a pill. I hate taking pills too, and this is the only thing that works for me.

just break up the capsule and mix its contents in to some tasty soft food or drink like yogurt, which is a good idea to take with antibiotics, or a glass of milk or even soda. pretty much anything that you can easily consume.

Thanks for the advice everyone, juno, the perscription says to try to avoid breaking the capsule up, because it won't have the same desolving effect, but I guess I could try that if worse comes to worse. I got a PM from windy valley, and she told me that they should carry the antibiotics in liquid form as well, I just need to call my doctor and ask them about it, thanks for all the advice, Ugh, I'm having a crappy day, I can't even go see Angel as much as I want to, being that my one leg is so achy that I can hardly walk on it, and when I do go see Angel, she is tilting her head back and forth just watching me limp LOL, she seems a bit confused as to whats going on. I will definatly have alot of time to be on here as my body heals up, so thats a positive. I keep finding new burns on me, and they don't even hurt, I guess I owe a special thanks to mary, I was wearing the Mary's miraculous medal last night during my fall, my dad said that horse could have possible killed me if he would have landed on my head when he fell on me, (shivers). What was funny is that when I was in the doctors office, the lady was stiching my leg up and every time she was going to try something new I asked is that going to hurt, and my legs were shaking rally hard, because my muscles were sore and I was scared to death to be in a hospital, because that's just a depressing place to be. I have had fun hopping on one leg down the stairs LOL, lets hope I don't have make a post saying I fell down the stairs hopping and now I have more bruises LOL :) When I hurt my leg, I didn't feel anything at fist, I just layed their in shock, and luckily their was a school nurse riding in my lesson, and my dad, was thier to see the horse fall on me, he doesn't want me to ride anymore. The nurse and my instructor, came running over alng with my dad, and I just started busting out laughing, I guess thats part of shock, then the pain came and a few tears streamed out my face, and my instructor started to make me laugh. I was fine, didn't want to walk cause my leg was starting to hurt, but the nurse insisted that I do, so the nurse and my instructor helped pull me up, and my dad lifted me into the car, and then all the pain came, I guess I just like to talk about what happened, kind of refresh my mind a little bit. Does anyone know if stitches hurt to get them pulled out? I am very cautious of needles being poked into my skin, and any such pain :) before I left to go to the hospital, my mom gave me a sweater to take since it's always cold in hospitals, but I thought it was hot in thier, anyways when the nurse was going to give me a shot to numb my leg, I had the sweater over my face so I could not see it happening, and even when my leg was numb, I still had the sweater over my face so I wouldn't make myself sick watching sombody sew my leg together (GROSS) Ok, I guess I better leave it at that, before I bore you all with my sad story HEHE!

Poodle - i used to have the same problem when I was younger. What I would do is take the pill with something soft like yogurt or almost-settled jello and then wash it down with a gulp of water. The soft food kind of gives it this coating and then it all just goes down together.

Poodle, sorry about your leg. It will get better soon. Here's what I used to do when I couldn't swallow pills. If you can, break it open and eat it with a spoonful of jelly or jam. I used to do this all the time and you can't taste the grossness of the pill. Follow with a cup of warm water, it will absorb the antibiotic quicker. Good luck!!

Have to go with Pugglebaby. I take maintenance meds every day. I swallow them, (3) in the morning with a spoon of whatever flavor of yogurt I happen to have in the fridge. Just stick them in the middle of the spoon and put a tiny bit of yogurt over top and down they go. I have also used applesauce, small amount of peanut butter, jelly, jello, etc. Try to avoid breaking them open and if it comes right down to it. As someone else said, most meds are available in liquid form. Ask.

as long as its not infected the stiches will not hurt, Honestly when they pull them out it kinda tickles.

when i was younger i had a dog rip my pinky off, they sticked it back and All was good. Well they said to keep it covered but I was in 5th grade, hung out with only boys, and had to show it off. I got an infecton, As the dr was pulling out the stiches it tickled untill he got to the middle. the middle hurt so bad I almost cryed then the rest started to tickle agin. he said the pain was because of an infection. I had to soak my hand in epson salt every day untill the middle healed agin (It was nasty looking I kinda wish i had pictures). But only the place that was infected hurt.

What is the perscription for? If its an extended release breaking it up you will not get the full effect of it.

we'll, now I have to break the capsule open and I put the powder stuff in to some ice cream and swallow the powder stuff in with the ice cream, it might not have the same effect as mericoX19 was saying. But it has to do at least something. How can you tell if an infection is starting to occur? Right now my skin where the stitches are is white, it is a tad red, but only because their is a tad bit of blood, sorry, other than tha i think it's fine. Monkeyeatbut, how did the dog rip your finger off, are you kidding? That seems a bit extreme, that had to kill! If you lost your finger, how did they sew that back on, I have never heard of that, but I guess people learn something new everyday! When you had to put your leg in the epison salt, did it burn? I may try that, If I see an infection start to come, I get my stitches out on monday, and I definatly don't want it to hurt if I get an infection. I have been praying somehow I don't get one :)

Oh, yikes and ouch! I hope your ok now..Sorry about your fall. I hope you went to a doctor about the leg. You should've trotted and instead of galloping. Try that! I drink a lot of water and then I have no problem swallowing the pills. I take the pill with my throat all watery then, afterwards I drink a full cup to get the pill down. I never had the problem, I take tynelnol and that's what a big capsel looks like. So, its kind of easy, I just hate taking pills!!!!! Well, hopefully the my tip works out for you. Let me know ok. Time released capsules have different type of granules in them that dissolve at a different rate. If the power is all the same color and consistency, then it is all meant to be absorbed at once. The capsule itself has nothing do with it. it breaks up very quickly. Long before it gets to the stomach. Taking it with ice cream is just fine. Just make sure to drink a full glass of water afterward to wash it all down so you get the full dose at once.

I can't swallow pills either and I end up doing what you did. I open the capsule and pour it on something. I had the same problems as you; I would put it in water, put it in food and it would always just sit there. I couldn't make myself open my throat to let it go down. :P I'm sorry you had this accident. When something like that happens you just can't think of what the right wrong thing is until it's done. Hope you feel better.

becareful when taking antibiodices with yogurt or other dairy, as it can mess with the drug. look at the paper that was sent with the meds.
I have always had problems swollowing pill, as my tonsels are so big the touch. I put the pill in the back of my mouth the drink it down will a large gulp. Also, I have heard that drinking thru a straw helps.

Take a bite of some food, like a sandwich or whatever you're eating. chew the food and just as you're about to swallow, shove the pill into the wad of food in your mouth and swallow. You wont even notice it going down.
