What clipper would you buy,

I need to buy a clipper,any helpful suggestions?

I want small, long cord, 2400-3600 cuts per minute, detachable blade. Do any of you have a clipper you think well of. Thanks!

Andis. I have Oster, but find the Andis to be the better clipper and the choice of the pros. Pet Edge has super prices and there usually is always something free with your purchase. I am getting ready to order a set of them myself.(Ultra Edge model)

I've been researching the same thing... Everyone I have called and checked with thats a Pro groomer, or vets office <local and web> has said Oster.. Different models but all said Oster... It is a hard decision to make when your pulling out a fair amount of money and want something thats going to last... Good luck and let me know how you come out.. I know I want Oster, now I have to decide which one. lol

I was told to use human clippers. So, I got some decent clippers from Sally's, by Wahl. I also bought some cheap ones from Target, also by Wahl, and they suck. The good ones were about $60, and they work great...the only problem with them is the user!

I got a oster power max 2 speed, was 179 in the Pet co store, on line @ pet co it was on special 161.99 plus there was a 15.00 reduction in the price as a special for spending more than 100.00 so about 146.99. Then I had to order a # 3 blade and a A comb to get the inch long cut that I want. I did our Barney for years whan he was alive. But he was a big dog and stood very well, now we are talking about 5 lbs. of puppy....I know I will get the hang of it, just have to give it some time. :-)

I have thought about getting some clippers for Charlie but wasn't sure what to get. He is only 6 lbs so would any be ok or is there a certain one to get? I am going to take him to the vet again for a haircut this Saturday. I need to do a before and after pic when I give him a bath, he is so little when he is wet then POOF furball!! LOL

Well, I use to have a $300 pair of Oster horse clippers. Have a pair of Oster A5 dog clippers. But I still plan on buying the Andis. I have used the ones owned my the handler I worked for. She use to have Oster too. And my other friend who grooms has now switched to Andis as well. All my poodle friends have made the switch to Andis as well.
You can get a 2 speed Andis from PetEdge for $129.00 and they come with a 10 blade and a free 7FC blade.

Which ever brand you end up getting, be careful using them. You can cause clipper burns if you do not know what your are doing. The ones from Wal-Mart and K-mart are not even worth dragging home. Sometimes you can find them used or reconditioned on eBay, but I want to make sure they have a good strong motor. Since I do groom for other people, having a good set of clippers is very important.

I have the Oster Golden A5. Don't know what I paid for it or if is the best but it does shave Buddy three times a year and works great for this job.

If anyone would be interested in obtaining my used A5's, you can send me a private message. I guess if you were only doing one dog a few times a year, they would be fine. I have not used these that much, but I bought them used as well. I just shaved my girl's belly with them and it worked OK for that.

I don't know about other clippers but with shaving Buddy one blade only lasts one year. Buddy is a big dog and if using a clippers often I would suggest getting a better one.

See we dog show folks are pretty smart. There is always a booth at the shows that sharpen blades and scissors. Not all sharpeners are created equal. There are also places to mail them in for sharpening. I think I pay $4.00 to sharpen. I now buy titanium blades, they hold the edge better.

So I will buy the titanium ones. I feel this way 15 bucks a year for Buddy is just fine with me. But, Thank you for the heads up.

That is the number that I called to order the blade and comb. They are sending me a catalog. If your order is under 60.00 there is a 6.00 fee.
The groomers at Pet Co order from there. I had two of the groomers telling me what they thought was the best. I wont know for sure until I get the blade and comb and try them. Its go great to hear so many points of view and experiences. Thanks for your thoughts!

I have a small in home grooming business. But a couple of my friends have larger grooming shops, where they can groom up to 15 dogs just themselfs, not counting the hired help. I called them to ask them why they preferred the Andis over the Oster, and got the same answer from both. The Andis run cooler. Which is better for the dog, and the groomer. If a motor runs cooler, it is going to last longer, plus you do not have to keep stopping and either changing the blade to a cool one or wait for them to cool off. Most do not like to use that spray on blade cooler. They said it gunks up there blades and shortens the cutting life of the blade.

Yeah, they have shipped my new Adis Ultra Edge clippers today. Now I remember why I don't like my Oster's. I had to groom 3 client dogs today, and my hand was burning up from the clippers getting too hot.
Any volunteers for me to practice on with the new clippers?????
