We have had my boxer puppy for about 3.5 months. In that time she has had 2 sick visits to the doctor. This time, the whole left side of her face is completely swollen, almost to the point of not being able to open her eye all the way. I took her in and he said she has an abcess. Also, she's losing chunks of hair throughout her body and he thinks it's mange. I have 3 other dogs and they don't have any problems. Is it the breed?
Oooohhhh, not pleasant. Well they are considered an immuno-suppressed breed. They often have problems with things like allergies and mange. If she is having problems this early you probably should be talking to the breeder you purchased her from :(
Boxers are like cookies you can't have just one :)
my dog is part boxer.. she's heathly but when she was a pup i had trouble with her hair falling out in spots. it was her food. i had expensive food because i thought it was better but here it had too much protein for her. now that i switched her food her coat shines and is in great shape. call your breeder and ask them.. they should help.
I have two boxer pups..ages 15 and 13 weeks and they have been great. No problems out of either.*knock on Wood* However, I do know that they are a little more prone to allergies and skin irritations than most breeds. Mine have an allergy to thier nylon collars, so i'm having to switch to the metal chain collars for right now. And the older of the two tends to tear up more than the other but it's not causing him any problems. They are both great pups!! I would have to say that if yours is having these problems you need to contact the breeder you got it from and see what they have to say. They should be able to give you information and help. I hope your pup gets well soon, no one wants a sick baby!!! :)
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me hapy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you..please don't take my sunshine away!
Thank you so much. I have no clue as to how to get hold of the breeder ( I got it through a friend of mine's parents) but we've been putting the warm compresses on her jaw and it's worked wonders! She's now back to playing with the other dogs and having all the attitude in the world!!! We still have to take her back and get a clean bill of health, but hopefully that's what we'll get.
