3 Weeks ago I adopted a 15 month old male Labradoodle name Bigfoot and he has been a perfect man's best friend and I am very please with him. But there is one problem with Bigfoot and itís that he gets too excited, lunges and will bark wildly at other dogs when I walk him on a leash. I know Bigfoot is not an aggressive dog and he is perfect when he is off leash. Pls anyone have some tips on how to discourage this behavior.
You must correct the behavior everytime it happens. At the first sign of your dog staring at other dog, or walking toward other dog, you must correct it. The dog will take its cues from you. You must tell your dog no and make them stay in a heeled or sitting position. Good luck!
Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental!
it's funny because Dakota does that when we walk or go anywhere where we see a larger dog. He goes crazy barking at them and they are 10 times his size. I am still trying to get this behavior under control but so far he continuous to do it.
Even waiting at the vet.... we had to wait outside because while sitting in the waiting room other dogs would come in and he would go crazy.
This is quite normal for smaller breeds, no matter how much socialization you put them in, smaller dogs have a complex and forget they are small. It can be quite embarassing, most smaller dogs dont fancy big dogs, I dont know why but that is my observation over the years of owning both sizes. Right now I am trainig my dog to not park as small or big but jeeze, it is like pulling teeth
