Royal Canin makes a food just for Yorkies :) Personally I would head into a local pet store and speak to someone there about a GOOD quality food. Beneful nutritionally speaking is not a good quality food at all. I also have two Yorkie mixes and found I had problems with the youngest one due to kibble size in many of the better quality foods (she was only 2 1/2 lbs) Most places will carry sample packs of kibble and you can take a look and see just how big the kibble pieces are. I was using Natural Balance but their kibble is disk shapped and very difficult for very small dogs to eat. I switched to Canidae all stages and their kibble is very tiny. If you were looking for a specific "Yorkie" food..look into Royal Canin this is the link to their Yorkie food http://www.royalcanin.us/dogfood/yorkshire.html Just keep in mind that if you do switch food, do it gradually over a period of a week or so by slowly adding the new food to the old food. These little guys are prone to stomach and bowel upsets if you do it too quickly :)
I'm feeding mine Innova dry as well. the kibble is small enough for a small breed and it's not hard as the food is baked. You will also notice that your pup doesn't poop as much as Innova is more nutritious than Beneful. Natura, the company which makes Innova, also makes Evo which a grain-free dog food and they have one called Evo Small Bites for small dogs.
In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semi human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog. ~Edward Hoagland
I also feed royal canin - I have a maltese puppy and hes only 3.6 pounds and this food is very tiny and he loves it. I often wondered tho when i see the bags with a yorkie or a dash hound or whatever the other small breed dogs are for? Sounds silly but what if you dont have this breed?? When i first bought it i was reading each bag for gosh seemed hours, why is that food only for yorkies? what would it do to a maltese? THe one i went with i think has the tiny dash hound on it- i picture the bag but i cant remember if thats the breed or not thats on the bag . But what does this brand specify for certain breeds if it doesnt carry every breed? (trust me i know that would be to many bags of food to make) but honestly at first i didnt know if the food would be fine for my dogs since it wanst either of the breeds on the bags.
I just went with the one i went with because its for small dogs up to 20 pounds i think maybe 10 pounds lol But all of my dogs now eat it and love it, even tho Daisy is 15 pounds and Bentley is 8 pounds - they do like it and eat it and never would eat hard food before untill Louie and him eating this food and now i dont even feed soft food to any of the dogs anymore. what a relief, My dogs wont eat wellness or merrick or solid gold or anything - ive tried it all , so i dont know what makes this food differnt/ im sure just because Louie eats it and they want what the new puppy has, but its been over a month and they all gooble it up..
