I have decided to breed my rabbits again, my mini rex, min lop, and florida white, and since it is getting closer to winter and getting colder I have decided to take EXTRA percautions to ensure their survival.
I am going to pile hay high in their cage so if the babies are born outside they wont touch the wire, place hay about 5 inches up cage walls, all sides, to make sure none fall out of the cage, move the pregnant ones to the porch where im sure it will be warmer and more out of the wind, check them everyday, starting from a week before their due date to about a week after to make sure they have them and make sure they are taken care of, and feeding the moms supplements to ensure good, rich milk for the kits.
Does anybody else have any other suggestion on what i might could do to ensure their survival even MORE?? I have raised rabbits all my life and know alot but im looking to see if anyone else might know a thing or to i dont...
Their due dates are the 18 so i plan on watching then starting the 11th through the 25th, just to make sure!! Ill upload pictues as soon as their born and update you guys constantly on their status!!
"Dogs arent our best friends...were their best friends...."
Babies here!! My Florida White had 5 babies total but when i found them 3 had already died. I left the other 2 in there over night hopeing they would stay warm enough but sadly they didnt make it. Then this morning my Mini Rex had 4, that i know of, 2 dark maybe caster or black, and 2 white. Their so very cute and small! I will get pictures as soon as i can! Still waiting for the Mini Lop but i doubt she will have any...she never does!
I am justwondering why you don't let them have the babies inside, or at least in the garage? I have had two litters of rabbits before one when I was about 10 years old and the other litter when I was about 15. Both were born in there rabbit cage in my room no special care becaues I was to young to know any better. All survived from both litters. Both mothers were rescued pregnant, One of the litters was co-raised by my cocker spanial, they were the same color as she was and had floppy ears like her so she thought they were hers, lol!
I prefur to have my Bordeaux with fur instead of a cork and bottle ;)
I wanted to have all the mama's up on the porch so they would be warmer but there just wasnt any room so i knew my Mini Lop wouldnt have any so she stayed down there and i knew my Mini Rex, the cage she was in, is very warm because it has its own little conjoined, enclosed, room so tey would be warm but i wanted to bring my Florida White inside but just didnt get around to it.
I remember when I was little, my brothers rabbits having babies all the time. They were in an encloser in the backyard, and had burrows. Only problem every time it rained my parents had to go out and get the babies befored they drowned. we would have 30-40 babies in the bathroom, and my mom standing there in her house coat drying babies with the hair dryer.
Um excuse me? Not ever rabbit, pet or not, has to be inside or on the porch. I hate how in all the books it tells you everything about inside rabbits but nothing about them being outside. Rabbits are naturally outside, they love the feeling of it. Just because i cant keep my rabbits on my porch or inside doesnt mean i am a bad owner!! And for you information, i breed rabbits because i am the local breeder for about 2 of our pet shops. I breed year round so they have a new supply of them monthly. I also raise purbred rabbits for shows and have won best in show 3 times. Everyone has a different opion on how to raise different things. I have been doing this, literally, all my life and i feel hurt when someone comes around and says i am a bad owner, or implys it because i dont do what they think is right with THEIR animals. Im doing just fine and have been doing just fine all my life. Things die, thats the way of life. In the wild baby rabbits die all the time its no big deal. Yes it is sad, but you go on and breed again and get more the next time. Its not like when they die the world ends!
"My Florida White had 5 babies total but when i found them 3 had already died. I left the other 2 in there over night hopeing they would stay warm enough but sadly they didnt make it."
"i wanted to bring my Florida White inside but just didnt get around to it."
Yes, you are just the kind of "breeder" I would want to buy from. You don't even give a damn if they live or die. You "just didn't get around to it". Might I suggest you give all your rabbits to someone who actually has TIME to take care of them?
(Assuming, that is, that you even have rabbits. Or do they live with your 2 dobermans? In that imaginary part of your mind?)
The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.
For you FYI i am in 10th grade not 8th, and i dont give a f$@^ what either of you think. Like i said, if you can read, each breeder has their own ideas on how to raise animals. Just because mine arent inside doesnt make me a bad owner. I know plenty of people, most of them around here, who have their rabbits outside. And i do care if they live or die. She had them in the night and i didnt find them till early morning so thats why they died. Just because i dont want them on my porch or inside doesnt mean i dont care. Do you live here? Do you see how i treat my animals? No. Didnt think so! So you cant accuse me of being a bad owner, and not spending time with my animals just because some babies died! I dont go around saying "oh you leave your dog outside at night?! thats bad your a HORRIBLE dog owner!!!" And wtf do you mean "cut the crap"? What crap? All of what i am telling you is the truth. If you really want to know fine!
My name is Kayla Buzzard I am 15 years old and in the 10th grade. I live in Humboldt County and have 2 fish, 2 dogs, 12 rabbits, 5 cats, and 4 chickens. Anything else?? I really dont care what you all think. You can bring up the doberman thing all you want but from now on, im ignoring it! So say what you want, im a good pet owner and i know it i clearly dont give a damn if you beleive me or not because i dont want to know you!
you can try using shredded newspapers next time i use that for my pups keep them very warm. and try putting a cardboard box in for them or a small dog crate. LOL i though you really had dobermans was looking forward to the pics ;( PS love the pitty he is a pretty dog!
Well i had some but i didnt think they would be as warm as the sheddings and i have them in a nesting box. No i dont, sorry, but thanks! Your dog looks very BEAUTIFUL too!! Love the coloring!! Never seen it!
At least she is admitting now that she doesn't have the dobermans, that is a step in the right direction. JK, if you want the pictures, I am sure she can go around and gather 4 different pictures of 4 different breeders champion pics (trying to pass them off as 2 of her own dogs) again and PM them to you.
The crap that needs to be cut around here, is you insinuating that you are an adult, and that you paid a person for the two dobes in that thread you made. That you breed bunnies for a pet store, that you are responsible for vet care and training at 15 years old.
Don't try to deny that every chance you get you take advantage of real adults on this site by hinting towards those things. And don't worry, I have no desire to have a friendship with a little kids who likes to build themselves up on a pet site for fun during play time. But you won't be taking advantage of those who don't know any better anymore, fair warning. So you might as well make the troll name now...
And about the bunnies, saying that you were going to take them inside but "didn't get around to it" do you really think that makes you responsible? Young ladies should have more sense then all of this bologna at 15 years old, grow up.
A drug person can learn to cope with things like seeing their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her teeth. But no one should be asked to handle this trip.
Ok i admitted to being 15 years old! I do breed my rabbits for pet store weather you beleive it or not! I dont take my rabbits to the vet because they dont need it! I dont buy their feed your right my grandparents do! And i never once tried ti be an adult! I am who i am! Im not trying to be anything im not! I have nothing to hide!
And the rabbits! Get over it!!! I dont bring them inside and never will!! They are perfectly content being outside! So get over it!!
Sweetiemommyof2, I don't understand why, if the baby rabbits die of the cold, you don't move their hutch to a shed, where you can have a heat lamp, garage, barn, anywhere with power. There does'nt seem to be room in your porch; so you may as well get a decent set up in order to keep all the babies alive, that you can.
