HI I'm Dakotah. I'm looking into getting a Corgi, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me about them like their personal experiences or what they know about the breed. I've also read the AKC standard on them and looked at a few books, but I would like to know your personal viewings on them. Thanks So Much.
They shed more than any other breed of dog I have ever met. And as soon as they finish blowing their coat they start all over again! This is probably one of the reasons sooo many end up in rescue.
they are also herders and have a crazy excitable streak in them. Males tend to be the calmer sex with corgis. Females are often same sex aggressive. They can really get themselves into trouble because they will go after huge dogs.
And corgis are big dogs. Just because they have short legs doesn't mean they eat less than a taller dog or that their vet bills are cheaper(I did hear this at my vets office more than once). they are a regular sized dog with little legs.
they are not an apartment dog. they need a real job to do or they can become a bit neurotic. Many become yappers and biters with bad breeding and no training.
It can also be hard to keep them healthy. So many corgis are overweight and it really takes a toll on their health.
I love my girl but I don't know if I'll ever get another one. Maybe a male.

The woman that boreds my horse for me has a Corgi "norman" Hes an awesome guy. He does seem to she quite a bit but he is very happy all the time and I love getting to visit him when I go to see gypsy. He usually keeps me company while out in the pasture. His other dog pal there is a yellow lab... Other that feeling it very necessary to claim my truck as his when ever I pull in the drive way I would say he's a fantastic little guy. He does have a tendancy to take off after bunnies and squirrels though. He does have a lot of room to run around though. I say hes a pretty nice dog overall. Not sure if that will help you out or not.
You can't ever expect a person to understand how an animal thinks! They will never understand selfish.
Although known as irishacres with 4 Irish Setters one of my daughter's has a PW Corgi.
She is a spayed female. I think it is a good thing that there are other dogs around. She enjoys herding them and playing the role of "Aunt Ellie".
Although a smaller dog, they don't seem to know their limitiations. They do shed quite abit. Most of the time Ellie is a happy-go-lucky dog. But on occassion she can be a witch. Our Corgi is a real lovey type of dog and loves to be near you. I think they are a smart breed and we had little trouble house breaking her. All in all, not a bad breed.
Thanks everyone. I know they blow coat alot but they seem to be great dogs. my grandma use to raise them and she loved them and still says there one of her favorite breeds. thanks so much again everyone.
there are alot of good breeds of dogs out there, and to tell you the truth, i don't think corgis would be one of my top 10 choices, i like irish setters, greyhounds, labs, goldens, french bulldogs.... there r alot.....
I LOVE THEM. There is a woman who works at my vets office that has one male puppy available. If I did not have so many males here right now, it would be very tempting to bring him home. What a cutie patootie.
