So I usually don't have to work more than 5 hours once or twice a week but in the next to weeks I have 3 8 hour shifts and I feel horrible about it. I mean my basset's a big girla dn while I hate to leave her she does just fine but my doxie's just 6 weeks and it makes me feel like the worst mom ever. I know he'll be fine but I just keep worrying that something will go wrong while I'm gone. I only have a little crate that's just his size for when I have class or something but when I have to go to work I decided to put him in the kitchen with a baby gate, toys, blanket, a hoodie I was wearing for my smell, and of course food and water but I still worry. I think I blocked him from being able to get between the stove and the wall and the fridge and the wall not that I really think he'd go back there but still...is there anything I'm missing that I didn't do? Just a worried mamma I guess
When he gets bigger, you might have to think about securing the cabinet doors. My dogs use to open then and go inside them. Just have to worry about the ones with stuff in them they could get hurt with. ie, cleaning products, etc.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
My dogs have to be home alone sometimes too and i worry just as well. But i think as long as he has toys(so he wont chew your things), food, and water he should be just fine. I will even leave my tv on low so he hears the voices and thinks your there so he feels safe and wont bark or wine. You can be sure he will give you a big warm welcome though when you get home!! =)

If your doxie is really only 6 weeks old then 8 hours will be a very LONG day for him. Not only is this going to cause potty problems but a pup that young might have a glucose issue being so long without food.
Can you have a friend, relative or neighbor stop by for feeding and potty breaks?
That is a long time to leave your puppy alone. However, most puppies just sleep alot anyway. I think he will be fine considering what you already have planned and it would be different if you were gone everyday for 8 hours. Just always have water present and he should very well be alive when you get home, lol. A neighbor checking on him every hour is not a bad idea. Good luck with everything.
