I think a lot of people try to stud out their males, but honestly as someone who owns 10 Boxer bitches and no males, I would not use your guy.

Here is why: I know many people in the breed that have AKC Titled Show dogs and for the best of the best dogs in the country, their stud fee is $600-800 for a FULLY HEALTH TESTED MALE. You can get some unproven (which your dog is unproven in every way) CHAMPION males for the stud fee of $400.

Even if he was a health tested Champion, I would not use him, because I don't let my pick puppies go. I want them, either for myself or they go out on co-ownerships. If nothing else (like I just had an all male litter) I would sell the 'pick' puppy for much much more than the value of a stud fee.

When people come to me for my Champion Sired Male Boxer puppies with the intention of 'using them for breeding' I let them know how unrealistic it is that they will be able to find people willing to breed unless they are willing to show. There are just way too many outstanding stud dogs out there.

If you really want to breed your guy then maybe you need to purchase a female and breed them yourself.

I am not trying to be mean, and in fact I haven't even seen your dog, and it doesn't even have to do with if your dog is 'nice looking' or not. Which is a whole other story.

Thanks for the advice.I guess I should have made my message a little more clear. I am actually only trying to find a local person who may want to breed their female. I just want to tell you I did not want anyone to think that we bought Mo for "breeding purposes".We purchased him from a very reputable breeder.He is our family dog( OUR 4TH RIP Malcolm and Holly)) with an excellent AKC lineage and I thought if I could find someone locally that have a female that they might want to breed.With that being said that is the reason I suggested the pick of litter.There may be someone out there who would like a litter to sell/give to family members or friends. I understand your concern and this is not something that I would jump the gun on.She would have to be worthy of my MO!!!

Molly, Just so you know if you happen not to, "excellent lineage", "AKC registered", "my vet says my dog is in perfect health", any of these things means didlysquat (however you spell that).

There is much more involved then just throwing 2 dogs together. Your breed regardless of what you are being told has absolute genetic problems in it. You need to do your own research, figure out just how responsible you want to personally be. NEVER breed a dog of any breed (in my opinion) unless that dog is certified sound and clear. Hips/elbows/heart/thyroid/eyes/PRA/ allergies/ other problems. And, the bitch you find is just as important to see clearances. You have a choice, it's a personal decision like anything else in life.. do you breed your dog responsibly, even with 1 litter, knowing you have done everything humanly possible to protect those puppies you are going to have, or do you just do it because you want a puppy and that's that?

Just something to think about perhaps. IF you get to the point where you really would like to do a litter properly, there are many many people on this forum including myself that will walk you through it and ensure you are able to get the clearances you need. Can you even imagine producing a puppy, putting that pup into a family's home, and 2 years later that puppy is blind with PRA, or limping because of a severe hip problem or anything else?? Please do not think it does not happen, it happens all the time, it's horrible. Even we Breeders have problems here and there, we just have knowledge and the means by which to handle the situations.

Obviously there are people who think that all people who are not breeders are irresponsible when it comes to considering breeding their dog.Mo did come from a reputable breeder who also have show dogs.They were who suggested I may!!!!! not could!!!! be able to breed Mo since his Dam has champion bloodlines through her Sire and Dam.I trust their judgement after seeing the way they care for their boxers, show or pets.Since it would be considered advertising I can not post their link here. They do not sell their dogs to people who only want to show them.What happens to all of the good dogs that people pay $800,900 for.I don't think they are all show dogs, some people like myself would like to have a well-bred dog that would be there family pet and may want to breed him or her with another dog that is also well-bred.I would never consider breeding Mo with a female that has not been health tested.Nor would I do it just " to have a new puppy".I have a female boxer that I bought from a breeder about 4 years ago.Everything seemed on the up and up when we picked her up, the business grounds were nice,the dog areas were clean, everyone looked well fed and healthy, they had a couple of show dogs and everything else that a prospective buyer like myself would feel confident with.By six months old she was diagnosed with red mange and I had to have her spayed so she would not suffer, you see it is not only "non-breeders" who are not responsible.As a matter of fact I was apprehensive to go to another "breeder" when we decided we would like to have another male after we lost our 12 year old male.(I know all about hip problems from watching him suffer)SO NO I am not the type of person who would breed Mo without researching.
I am aware of the AKC standards and am in the process of DNA testing.I love my animals and they are treated extremely well I know there are people out there that do not do the same.But it is not fair to stereo-type people who are not breeders by saying they are being irresponsible for wanting to breed their dog. I was excited when I found this site because I thought it would help me to find a female to breed with Mo since everyone here seems to know so much about dogs. And possibly learn some new things since I have considered getting a female.In my opinion breeders,FOR THE MOST PART, breed them to improve the standards of the boxer so they can sell their dogs for more money.I know there are breeders who don't make a lot of profit but you can not tell me that selling puppies for $1200. 1300. or more leaves them in the red.But I would do it so people like my family WOULD be able to get a family pet that is well-bred, Mo may not be a "show dog" but he is as my vet says" a extremely well-bred boxer" and his character and temperment are perfect.So,while some of you may think my post was irresponsible or that I am just wanting to do this for my own selfish reasons you are wrong.I have read some of the other discussion post in this forum and in my opinion some people on here are snobs and think that they are the only people worthy of breeding well-bred boxers.

Savannah, yes that is what I thought when I first found this site,that there would be people who would give advice.Well, sometimes it is the things that are said that will turn a person away.

Is this your answer for every post from a "non-breeder"?

Why would he be under limited reg. his parents are both well-bred animals with champion bloodlines.And who said anything about sporadic breeding.Also why would I want a co-ownership- these folks don't sell ALL of their boxers just to be show dogs or for breeding more dogs,they know some will be family pets they do not use the term "pet quality" because they are devoted 100% to EVERY one of their boxers.They also know that their are people who may decided they would like to breed boxers because of their love for the animals.This does not make us irresponsible it is the same way that breeders think...right????I am not so sure of that.Well it will be my way of thinking if I decide to get a female.

You are certainly right on that one....it does not matter if you 10 girls are the best of the best.I would not let your"bitches" near my dog.I seriously doubt that you are in this business other than for the money!

And I do not think that you follow the guidelines for this as well as other posts. The replies I received were not respectful from SENIOR members or MODERATORS.


What I feel now is that I have nothing to gain from using this forum in the future,obviously "newbies" are not always welcome.You could have made recomandations for me in your post instead of trying to make me feel like an idiot and someone who would "throw 2 dogs together" There are people in this world who care about the boxer breed as well as other breeds who are responsible and want to improve the quality of the animal.So don't just assume that someone who does a new post is a irresponsible person or that you are better then them.

Not offended at all and appreciate your post quite frankly. Tone is not heard via typing. I for one apologize though I went back and read my post and nowhere do I see where I was rude to you but if you took it that way, sorry, was certainly not meant that way.

In the mean time, myself and many others around here are always happy to help out. My offer stands and I mean it sincerely.

If you are serious about using your male as a stud, why don't you contact his breeder and let them know of your desire. I am sure his breeder could refer you to those looking for a stud dog to use. Your breeder is probably your best resource for breeding information. Good Luck. Would love to see pictures of your handsome man.
