Alright so I know puppies sleep a lot but I've never been around a puppy as young as my new addition, he's six weeks and I honestly don't think he's ever awake more than thirty min. at the very most. Is this normal? I'm sure I'm just being overcautious...I'm just curios
6 weeks is very young. Pups should not be placed into their new homes until 8 weeks of age :-(
Lot's of sleep is very normal. However, can you describe the activity when the puppy is up? does he play? is he going out? Is his stool ok? Is he eating and drinking just fine? As long as all activity is fine along with everything else mentioned, AND you have taken the baby to your vet for a thorough exam and did a fecal float testing for worms and parasites etc... the sleep is normal.
Savannah I know that he's too young to be away from his littermates and mom but that was out of my control. The owner was elderly and had to go into the hospital and her son could only take the mom...he's not from a breeder or anything and he was going to be sold regardless, I'd rather it be too me, someone who realizes the difficulties and will spend the time with him. I'm an animal science pre-vet student and love animals more than people most of the time lol...He's been to the vet twice already and was dewormed and he acts normal when he's awake I'm just overly cautious and like I said I've never had a pup this young but I'm learning and constantly in contact with the vet and reading everything I can...thanks for the Help :)
you're very welcome. Most dont have the information and knowledge you have so we try to post information that will also help in understanding age appropriate things. Based on everything you are saying, he really just sounds as if he's very young and sleeping a lot which is normal. :-)
