Well there is a lot of ignorance in the Pit Bull world, with it coming from other Pit Bull owners it makes it a sad state for the breed. Does this happen in anyone else breed, I'd love to hear if there are special this or that in labs, boxers whatever you own that people make up.
So I just had a phone conversation with someone calling about Pit Bulls. They were just asking general questions about my dogs.
I told them what my dogs colors were and the bloodlines. They asked if I crop ears. No. Do you have someone who will? No. I told them the vet does it. She said not where she lives, she has a Pit Bull/Lab mix and they wanted to crop the ears and couldn't find a vet to do it. Told her to check outside areas. But why would you want to crop a crosses ears? Thats what I was thinking. If its not showing then whats the purpose.
Then they ask about size, what are their sizes. So its my fault for not saying lbs right when telling them? They said are you talking about the head sizes of them? I never measure my dogs heads....lol I've seen some claim 28" head but people can exaggerate. So you'd think when the lowest starts at 35 that doesn't mean head size. My heaviest dog is 65lbs. I really don't see how one could think head size. But if thats what they were meaning by their question I didn't know or I would just say I don't measure heads.
Then she says well are yours the American Pit Bull Terrier bloodline??? I said Well yeah they are all APBT, thats the breed so what do you mean, what bloodlines are you looking for? This was after I already told her the bloodlines. She said well what we are looking for is Gotti. I said well that is just a bloodline, not a breed and APBT is the breed. Then she said well what they want is something over a 100lbs and a bluenose male. I never mentioned blue before so I don't have blue. I was like I don't have anything near that size (I also told her the sizes already), all my dogs are purebred and I show them so they are to the standards. I don't have any mix breeds like Gotti line.(yes I did inform her these dogs were mixed with probably Neo and other breeds) She said oh.
Then she says well kind are yours? I'm like what do you mean. I hate that question because you don't know what people mean, by now we had covered everything (I thought) but when people first start talking they could mean bloodline, color, or some other special made up type. So she says she was reading where they're are too kinds, a curve nosed kind and kind with a bump on the nose. She said her husband is looking for a curve nosed Pit. I'm like well I don't know anything about that, I've never seen any description like that and haven't seen Pits like that. I told her she can see the standard are UKC website. Then she says whats your website. I'm like not mine, UKC site, United Kennel Club. She's like ok. Then there was a little more talk and convo ended.
In the beginning when I asked her. What are you really looking for? She should have told me and I could have told her I don't have any of that and don't know breeders who do either. Would have been a lot less time for her to waste, I guess I don't mind it, I was getting smiles out of my husband as he hears me talking to her. He can probably guess what she's saying on the other end. I know its not funny, but it almost is.
Reminds of the guy saying he had a "pure crenshaw line" and "faded gator". I'm like WTH is he talking about.
LMAO! Sounds like she had no idea what she was saying!
Yes, Huskies attract some weird people as well. Usually people obsessed with wolves. You know the kind. Wolf artwork everywhere. Unfortuanately, then they are mixed with wolves to get wolfdogs, or are mixed with hounds to get Alaskan Huskies. So in both instances, the breed is being diluted. I think every breed attracts their own brand of weirdies...
They mix both Siberians and Mals with hounds to get the more streamlined 'racing' look. You know, the dogs that are long-legged and lean. I'm sure there are several mixes considered to be Alaskan Huskies, the ones I have heard of are mixed with hounds. Mals aren't used for racing much anymore. It is just too hard for them to compete with the smaller, faster dogs. Mals are amazing at weight pulls and pulling large load though. They just aren't as good for racing anymore.
Yea, thats why I thought they were cross-breeding them with siberians, try to get the speed and the strength combined. Years ago I had heard about them using wolf-hybrids for this reason as well but I don't know how common that was or if they're still doing that.
LOL Huskysee, I have seen those people. They are so obsessed with wolves, got to have the wolf looking dog. I've seen dogs I know were not even wolf hybrids let alone pure wolf, but the owners say they are wolves. Maybe in their mind they are. I think what one guy told me was that if it has blue eyes and gray coat then it is part wolf.
When I was breeding rotties over 10years ago I had quite a few idiots ask me with a gleeful/hopefull look on their faces if my dogs were mean. I also had the 5 year old sire for one day. A couple came over and I brought him into the house on a lead. He was a bit testy, and I was not paying attention to him. I pulled him back towards the back door. He didn't appreciate the parading, and snapped at me. (My fault, not my dog, and he was tired of being put on/off leash all day.) The couple say to me "oooh we want one!!!" Holy you know what! I did NOT give them one. Idiots. They knew nothing about my relationship with the male. I stopped breeding shortly thereafter.
The american eskimos attract the most wonderful people. I've never had any oddballs even contact me for one!! Its fantastic! And with the poms the only duds we get are the type looking for teacups, or looking for charity and i super hate both those kinds. If you don't have the money to pay for a dog how will you pay to take care of it? Oy... Nobody with bad intentions though like i imagine you'd come across often with the pitts or rotts or dobes.
The biggest problem I have is with BYB idiots, make me so mad! They call or write "what do you have and how much?" 99% of the time thes are calls that have a "dog they want to breed" Sorry no way, If I have told them I only have companion no show breeder available- "that's ok we don't plan to show" WTH ! Then they will also usually think my pet price is to high, ha if they had any idea how much I paid for my breeding stick they'd just die, lol!
Ok being that my breed is a rare breed not all dogs bred are champions, but they should be "of show quality" and someone who does not even know what that means and already owns one dog that they plan to breed really scares me!
Unfortunatly there are alot of breeders out there in my breed who breed some good dogs, show (alot), and are well known breeders, but they do not properly screen homes and they are causing a HUGE problem now with more and more bac BYB breedings occuring. I recently saw an add advertising Dogue De Bordeaux "fresh puppies" upon looking at the photos no way was the sire full DDB - look at the "pedigree" (using the term loosley because it only listed the breed of dogs not the registered names etc) and the father of this litter was a APBT! Totally P****d me off. First this is a total mutt, second with the size and strength of the DDB and the game and drive of the APBT not to mention that both breeds were at one time used for pit fighting and have a tendancy for dog agression (in my breed definatly male to male!) There is NO WAY that this is a "new breed" that i would in any way deem a stable combination! These dogs have the poitential to be some serious trouble in the wrong hands. Considering who they were being sold by they have a good chance of ending up in the hands of an inexperienced owner or in a underground ring. In either instance bad for the dog and both our breeds used in this combo. Makes me sick!
I prefur to have my Bordeaux with fur instead of a cork and bottle ;)
LOL truepits! That would mean that ALL of mine are wolves, using that guy's logic! teehee! Funny, seemings that wolves NEVER have blue eyes either. Brown or amber, and sometimes green, but NEVER blue! Gosh, people can be ignorant!
Yeah Huskysee.....I wasn't going to argue with him, I can't believe some of the things they come up with. I was like whatever he wants to believe.
Redangel that is bad with people mixing like that!!! I totally know what you mean. So stupid.
One dude on a board asked if anyone had ever seen a rednose pit crossed to a presa. When people asked why he wanted to know he said "He was speaking of a litter he had on the ground right now" Then after people expressed that isn't right to be breeding that way he said something hey calm down it was an "accident", although he was proud trying to sell them (against board rules) and in his profile for occupation it said breeder. Stupid BYB making unstable dogs. He said we needed to calm down about Pits biting people (when we were talking about unstable temps) because Pits just get a bad rap, and the only reason Pits bite someone is because their owner is too lazy to secure their fence. Hmmm ok sounds like a man biter to me!! Man aggressive Pits shouldn't exist so it has nothing to do with the fence, if the dog wasn't aggressive their wouldn't be a problem. He also said his male is "super animal aggressive like a true rednose pit should be" LMAO, whatever the heck that is. Also said these make "good looking guard dogs".
I don't get that so often with the bybs, but from time to time I do. A few years ago I had a similar experience. A lady was interested in a male pup I had. I asked the usual questions including her plans for the dog (inside, outside, crate training, fenced yard, ect), what quality she was looking for (show, pet). She said she was just looking for a pet and didn't plan to show, he was going to be kept indoors and be a companion. We talked a bit more and came to sending the contract. I told her to read everything and make sure she agrees before signing. So she went on afterwards to say that she was going to get a female for him later, she would love to have a litter of pups for herself and friends.
Ok so this was after reading my contract which states pets must be spayed/neutered! It also has the breed/show quality info on there too, which states that the buyer is OBLIGATED to show the dog and have it assessed by a judge (among other things). I was like WTH!!! A lot of it was in BOLD to highlight some points, did she even read it at all. No showing equals no breeding, pet quality equals spay/neuter. So I told him, I'm sorry I can't sell him to you. The contract clearly states (you know) and it would be detrimental to the breed to allow a pet quality dog to be bred that has not proven itself as breed quality. She got a little agitated saying Well I told you he was just going to be a pet and I didn't want a show dog. I only wanted to breed one litter of pups. I'm sorry if you think I will ruin your bloodline but I would take really good care of him. You wouldn't have to worry. How do you even know these people you sell dogs to will do what you say, well I guess you have way of knowing, at least I hope so..... Let's see for starters don't sell to someone who blatantly ignores what the contract says like herself.....lol
So I know what you mean, they don't know enough about the breed and why should dogs be bred. They also don't know really enough about breeding itself to care for the litter or the dam, especially if something goes wrong. They'd probably lose the mom and pups.
