I know I'm going to upset some people by saying this, but seriously people does it matter that much? I know a very large amount of both people and pets that don't eat "organic" food and are very healthy. I think the whole things just a fad and sooner or later people are going to realize it doesn't make that much difference.
Eating healthy is just as important to our pets as it is to us. It should never be considered a fad as much as a nescessity. Not everyone has to go organic, but they can look for foods that provide more nutritional value than others. The difference between foods like the NB, Canidae, Wellness, etc, and foods like Iams, Alpo, Ol'Roy, are like comparing baked potatoes. Its not the potato itself that makes or breaks you, its what you put in it that can raise your cholesterol and clog your arteries. Works the same with our pet foods.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
skyman, I for one do not believe eating organic food is a fad. Why would you want to eat food that has been plastered with insecticides, forced by chemical fertilizer to grow and genetically altered to 'improve' it's hardiness? You have to really look at what you're eating, how it's grown, and what chemicals are introduced to the process before you can call it a fad. I live right in the middle of organic farming country, so I'm biased, but it makes perfect sense to me, and it makes perfect sense to feed our animals the same way.
Lol, mcdonalds vs a homecooked meal. Many things you buy from the store for homecooked meals are not organic. Not one friend or family member of mine eats organic food and neither do our pets, and guess what, every one of them is healthy. Yes they plaster them with pesticides.... then wash them off. Also, a family member of a friend grows "organic" corn/potatoes, and guess what, HE SPRAYS PESTICIDES!
Sky, then he is a fraud. Is he USDA inspected? Or just selling on a private farm stand?
One could argue that eating Mcdonalds and ramen noodles everyday is ok because its cheap, theyre not getting fat, no problems etc. Until they drop dead ten years later from a heart attack.
Dogs just dont live as long as we do, to see the long-term effects of such horrible diets. However in the mean time, canines and felines are unncessarily getting diabetes, allergies, dysplasia, obesity... explain why dogs that are fed raw diets for life almost never come down with dyplasia, allergies, diabetes... etc.
Skyman, you can't plaster something with a pesticide, and wash it off, the chemical is IN the food... and where does the residue go? I'd love to get into organic farming with you; so you could see the true benefits of it. It would take a whole new thread though. Suffice to say that your friend is NOT an organic farmer, and just because you don't have health problems now, does'nt mean you won't.
