I had a very strange experiance this morning and not sure what to think of it. This morning as I was turning around to say goodbye to my cat Louis...he fell off the couch and had what I think was a little seizure, and odd kind of convultion...he wet himself and then as soon as it started...it was over and he jumped back on the couch and started licking him self like nothing ever happened. Worried that it could be the new flea collar I'd put on him...I immidiately grabbed the scissors and cut it off. I don't know what to think about it. It's the first time I've ever seen him do that. But I don't know if he was fighting with his collar or actually having a seizure. I'm going to take him to vet when I get home...I know that I should've taken him as soon as it happened...but I wasn't thinking and he seemed to be okay after it was over with. What does everyone else think??
It was a zodiac flea collar. I don't normally put flea collars on my cats, but thought I'd give it a shot. This was last week that I'd put it on him and he drools normally anyway...BUT, I'd noticed since I put it on him that he drooled excessively. I'd have to clean his mouth about 3-4 times a day. I'm hoping this is what it was. None of my other cats acted weird. But I know to each his own. I hope it was...It just scared me....
Well, all turned out fine. He doesn't seem to have anything wrong with him. The vet said that the flea meds may have been to much for him because a cat's skin is more sensitive. So I'm hoping this doesn't happen again!!
You know...I watched some of the videos for comparison. Louis' are much much shorter...BUT...very convulsive and the odd thing is...they only last seconds and then he's back up like nothing ever happened. The vet said that everything was fine...BUT...he's done it at least one other time that I know of since the visit...and he has rapid eye movement from side to side...which he's had since I've adopted him. Should I take him back and demand that something is wrong with him or seek a second opinion??
I'm new to this site but would like to add something. It's rare that a seizure would act like this. It is possible he got his foot partially caught in the collar and that's what flipped him. Minimal or excessive salivation could also be cause by the taste of the flea collar if he got it in his mouth. It is never a good idea for a cat to wear any type of collar unless it's a breakaway collar. Much too dangerous otherwise.
