Well little Pipi was booked in for her spay this Thursday (in 3 more days). Unfortunately her body had other ideas and she started her first heat cycle this weekend. I will be calling the vet in the morning since today was a holiday to let them know and reschedule. I've heard that you have to wait at least a month after they complete their cycle. Anyone have any insight?
Thanks Windy..I will be asking tomorrow when I call. Unfortunately I switched off all my shifts from this Thursday to the following Wednesday so I could keep an eye on her after her surgery. Arrghhh. I've never had a female go into heat before so this is alllll new to me.
Since my other two females were spayed before their first heat I never had to deal with this. I do have some diaper things I had made for her when we took her out places before she was housebroken that I can use. So far there's been no mess anywhere but it's only day 2. Is there any sort of personality changes that might occur during this? How are your other females when one is in heat? I noticed the middle female is acting a little odd towards her. Sniffing her a lot then jumping back? Anything I should be watching for as for reactions the other girls, not around other dogs since she won't be leaving my side for the next few weeks.
All females are going to react differently. Some of my girls become very clingy and needy. As long as there is not a male dog around there should not be any problems with the other dogs. Sometimes if there is a male around there can be a jealousy thing between females in heat.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
my females usually have a heat for about 2-3 weeks. but its differant for each female. one of my female skipped one of her heats about a year ago. and all your females sould be just fine. when one of my females is in heat my others act just fine. what kind of dog is she? how old is she?what are your other kinds of dogs?
Pipi is a Maltese x Yorkie that just turned 7 months last week. The oldest (Maggie) at 2 1/2 is a Maltese x Yorkie as well. The middle dog (Katie)is a Maltese x Poodle and is 1 1/2. Kate was spayed at 7 1/2 months and Maggie was 9 months. Neither had had a heat at that point. We have a 5 ft high fenced in yard so I am not too concerned about a male being able to come into the yard. I sit outside with them on the deck when they go out anyways. I originally had her spay appointment set up for a week ago but cancelled and rescheduled because I knew we would be going out of town with them for Thanksgiving (Canadian) and didn't want to take her out of town right after her surgery :( I thought I would be safe since the other two were older than her when they were spayed and hadn't had a heat yet..goes to show again each dog is different.
