I have a 9 month old Corgie that has had pneumonia since April. He has been hospitalized twice at a great expense at 2 different animal hospitals and has been on numberous antibiotics. His last chest x-ray I was told his pneumonia was clearing after 6 weeks of doxycycline but he is still hacking and coughing. Has anyone else had an experience like this. Thanks.
You need to keep him calm first off, next you need to talk to the vet about changing Rx. You should also doing things at home with steam. About the Rx an animal can only be on an antibiotic for so long before becoming immune to it. Good Luck
It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.
Thanks for the advice. His tracheal wash actually showed he was sensitive to the antibiotics he had already been on so I do not know why they worked for a while then stopped working. He has been on clavimox, Fortax IV twice a day for 6 weeks which his wash said he was actually resistent to even though he got better for a while. He was on Baytril and now doxycycline. He seems to feel good and has good energy but I just do not know why he still has the hacking. I was bringing him in the shower a couple of times a day but his cough was always loose so it did not seem to make much difference. The vet said a nebulizer might help but it has been impossible to find out. I am really going broke over this.
