I was but it kinda caught me off guard. Ive done alot of studying about both the breeds and love them both. I was actually brushing up on the mating and breeding of the two. I talked with the vet and everything about it so i hope i will be successful. Any helpful hints and ideas. They are both 11 1/2 months.
I'm really sorry that I can't be overjoyed about this accidental mating of 2 mixed breeds. The shelters are full of just this particilar mix, and most are euathanized. Neither one of the dogs are old enough to breed. Have you done any health testing on either dog, to see if they have any abnormalities, common to their breed? If it was my female, I would make an appt at the vet for a series of Dinoprost shots, and abort the pregnancy. Then I would neuter your male.
Both my pitbull and my bulldog checked out fine at the vet. There will be no aborting though, i feel a little differently about that than others. Both of my dogs are great animals and the vet and myself feel as if they wil be fine. I do really appreciate your feedback, you seem to be very knowledgeable. Do you know of any sites to help with training my dogs.
I am a breeder, and I do know a few things about dogs. One thing that I know, and your vet should be telling you, is that your dogs have to be OFA'd for hips and patellas, and CERF'd for eye health. If these tests are not done, you run the risk of producing puppies with abnormalities. You have said you love your dogs, and I'm sure you do. Your vet is leading you down the garden path by telling you everything will be fine. Please at least get a second opinion, from another vet, and ask about the health testing, for the good of the dogs, and the puppies. There are many links to training here, I just have to find them, so bear with me.
I'm sorry, this is total irresponsibility. Your bitch was in heat, I bet first heat, and you allowed your young stud dog near her? Now you are going to make a puppy have puppies?
A vet saying your dog is healthy has nothing to do with genetic soundness for breeding. IF you have been reading as you indicate then you knew your boy should not be around your girl when she was in heat and you allowed it to happen. As a long time breeder, I am not able to be happy about this either as you are clearly not being responsible or fair to your PUPPIES. yes, you own PUPPIES and you owed them more then to allow this to happen.
YOU WANT YOUR 11 1/2 MONTH OLD PUPPY TO BE SUCCESSFULLY BRED AND HAVE PUPPIES???? WHAT ARE YOU NUTS? I'm sorry for yelling but this is the type of thing that sincerely sets me off. Do you not get you have a puppy? This is not an adult dog of 2 years old, but a very young puppy, not even a year..... and you want it to be successful? that's disgusting and shame on your vet because vet's know better.

Where do these people find the vets that say go ahead and breed they are healthy, I think this is BS, any vet I have seen didnt want me to breed my CanKC Ch. Shiba Inu until he was old enough for the testing to be done.
Ruffian, I agree about the vet. All my years either working with Labs or just as a client owning dogs and having to see a vet, I have NEVER heard of a vet saying "ok your puppies are healthy, go have puppies", not even something close to that. Vet's do not say that when they know it's a puppy having puppies.
This thread really upsets me.
Pope, you're right too. Damn thing will turn out to be 20 pages with people asking to see pictures of puppies because they think they are cute and no consideration made as to what this human being is making his puppy having the puppies do.
Take your female in to be spayed and abort that litter asap. Unless you want to hand feed a litter because an immature mother is going to reject them. Or maybe she'll die from a complication. Who knows. Bottom line, shes too young. It's like you are asking a 10yr old child to have a baby. How dare you.
For one thing , they are both too young. Another thing, if you can not tell what it means when they are "stuck together" , you have no business having unaltered dogs in the first place. Get them fixed before you have a bunch of pups that you have no idea what to do with either.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
I am sick of seeing the work "STUCK TOGETHER" and then the question what does that mean. This is horrible puppies having puppies and find it very hard to believe any vet would think its a great idea....
I'm sorry, but I've been reading a couple of different threads on here lately and I have to agree with being sick and tired of hearing "stuck together" and then "what does this mean?" Are people idiots? Doesn't everyone KNOW what this means???
