Riley got his in on the 10th. I really don't see anything draining out anymore and even though we're putting medicine inside and everything, its starting to heal. The vet didnt want me to come in till NEXT Monday, but I made an appointment for Friday. However I'm thinking of calling them tomorrow to get him in on or before Tuesday...
Putting some sort of antibiotic into the wound. And we move it around when we do so the hole doesnt close up, like the doc showed us. I've been putting warm compresses on him to prevent any blood that does come out from scabbing, but really, there isnt much left.
How closed is the wound, and does it really hurt him if you move the drain very slightly? Remember, you don't have to move it much at all. Drains are commonly left in for a week to 10 days, and if you take it out too soon, you're going to have it put back in again. The vet might consider taking it out if there is absolutely nothing coming out of it, as long as the wound is still open enough to drain itself.
Riley, that depends on the wound, the amount of drainage and the area inside to heal. If he's freaking out that badly, I would ask for some medication to calm him down. Next time you move it, get someone else to do it, while you distract him with something yummy.
