Hey everyone, my dachshund Molly has had hypothyroidism for a year and she's on Thyroxine twice a day since, but she still has baldness, itchiness, thick skin on her ankles, and low energy, what else can I do? Does anyone else have a hypothyroid doggie? What are you doing to keep it under control? I may need to change her diet, right now she's eating Blue Buffalo dry chicken & rice, it's a good food if she was healthy, but since she obviously has special needs in a diet I may need to switch, HELP!
My dog is hypothyroid. She takes 2 soloxine a day. Once a year you should do blood work and adjust the medication accordingly. My dog really doesn't have issues with her skin and coat. It was mainly her weight and temperment. Sounds like your dog might have some food allergies or allergic to something environmently like dirt, grass, or an insect. Those types of things are really hard to pin point. Start with differnt types of food and go from there.
