I had my 8 week aussie puppy for 3 days -- each day I've been taking him outside on the grass to go to the bathroom. While he's out there, he'll bite stuff on the grass, etc.
I live in a dog-friendly apartment complex, so in all probability, another dog has been on the grass. I just read all the stuff about not taking a young puppy to public places & now I'm really worried.
Should I take him to the vet right away? or are there signs to look for?
Plus, where do I take him then? I really don't want to paper train, but I will do if the puppy's health is at risk.
I'd see about getting an expen to let your pup potty in. You can sterilize the area you put the expen on with a bleach water solution. Keep the pen out there if your landlord will allow it just till your pup gets all his shots.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
If your puppy is vaccinated taking them to a public park or a potty place where other dogs frequent should not matter. If your dog is not vaccinated you have every reason to worry, and should look into that. :)
The answer to your question is as follows. Pups are born with no immunity. They receive a total of 4 puppy shot boosters and then of course their yearly (although after the 1st year booster every 3 years is fine). The reality is it takes 3-4 puppy shot boosters to build the immunity in pups. Taking the puppy into parks, beaches, where there are other dogs and possible viruses that are contagious is dangerous until the pups has had it's 3rd to 4th booster. This does not mean you should not take the puppy into your own yard, your own environment. Particularly in warm/hot weather Parvo lives which is deadly and no way would I be taking a puppy out into strange places without all the shots. As well, you want your Bordetella which is for Kennel Cough. Rabies as well.
