I think my 2 year old Rott has a urinary tract infection and I'm trying to find out if it is ok to give her AZO. She has all the symptoms of a UTI and she has had UTI's before and I'm just trying to see if it would help until I can get her into the vet. Thanks in advance for any help.
One thing you need to know about AZO is that it does NOT clear up UTIs. All it does is provide temporary analgesic relief. If your dog has a UTI, you need to get her put on antibiotics that your vet will prescribe. It's very important to know that urinary tract infections do NOT clear up on their own. They are bacterial infections, and if left untreated will ascend up from the urethra and bladder to the ureters and kidneys. This can kill your dog. Kidney infections are difficult to cure (much more so than lower urinary tract infections), can cause total kidney failure, and sometimes do not even present normal symptoms like painful urination. Please take it from me. I know all about this: a few years ago, both of my kidneys failed due to an ascending UTI turning into acute pyelonephritis. Both dogs and humans share the same anatomy when it comes to this organ system.
