My dog keeps chewing his paws, Ive been to the vet for it, they tell me its allergies. I've changed his food, give him antihistamines and nothing seems to help, Does anyone one have any suggestions how to stop him.
What are you feeding? Some dogs just chew, it is a neurotic behavior that comes from being boarded or stressed.
I would cook for the dog. The best way to figure out what the dog can and can not eat, is start with just one thing. Like boiled chicken. At least 10 days to 2 weeks. If there is no reaction to that, then I would add cooked brown rice, same thing 10 to 2 wks. If no reaction, then I would add a vegtable(green beans or brocolli) but only one. If there is not reaction, then you can continue on in this manor. I did this with one dog, and after a few months of clearing out his system, he was able to go back on a kibble that did not contain, and soy, no wheat, no corn, no beet pulp. And he did fine.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
Jersey...My dog also has allergies....to molds and fungi, and since I live in Florida, she is exposed to these all year round. She bites her paws and scratches her ears. I have tried many products....benadryl, tavist, and now atarax. Nothing alone helps, but a combination of remedies seems to help a bit. After doing hours and hours of research, I am now giving her Omega 3 oil [use the kind from a fish], allergy tabs containing vitamin C and quercetin, and a homeopathic product called HomeoPet Skin and Itch Relief.
Also, sometimes I shake Gold Bond Powder on a brush and rub her tootsies with it.
My beagle has seasonal allergies. We finally had to resort to a cortisone shot because she was chewing her feet and rubbing her face/eyes til they bled. I really didn't want to do the shots but it got to the point that I just didn't have a choice. Luckily we only have to do them a couple times a year.
One thing that really helped my dog is to take him off beef dog food. I currently use a lamb and rice food and it has cleared up his allergies. I had an old vet tell me one time that there is more dogs allergic to beef than you would believe. This is the second dog I have switched dog foods and it has helped their allergies.
how long are you switching foods and what types? It usually takes around 4 to 6 weeks for whatever they're allergic to to completly get out of the system and if you're using food from wal-mart or wherever (i.e. purina, iams, etc.) then it's a huge possibilty that your dog is allergic to the corn or wheat or something...just a thought
