We'll, last Monday Angel started feeling really bad, we almost took her to the vet that day, but my mom said she could just have the flu, and two wait throughout the day, we'll Angel started improving a little that day. Next day tuesday, shes still tired and achy, but her ears and nose, and puppy pads are warm, but she had improved w/ some wheat bread and saltine crackers we were giving her, she was very dehidrated, so we had to force water down her throat "poor thing" After that she was drinking on her own! Today Wednesday, she looks like crap, she won't move, she won't eat or drink, and is shaking, she was also walking funny on her hind legs, we'll today since she is getting worse, my whole family is worried, were taking her to the vet at 2:00 today, can't go any sooner, because sister has a wedding ceremony type thing. I think I might call my neighbor to keep an eye on Angel while were gone, but we won't be gone very long, I'm so worried and iv'e been in tears just watching her lay their. Ugh, I just pray to God she's ok, we wonder if she got bit by a snake or poisinous spider, or if she has intestinal problems. Her poop looked goopy and had green, and orange things in it, not moving, but something that she may have eaten. But her poop was like and orangy brown. I am so scared at what the vets might say about her, but my parents promised me they will pay for anything to get her up and running again no matter how much it costs. "sigh" I guess I just really need all of you to pray for my dog right now, I can't stop worrying, and my eyes are all watery. Yesterday, Angel looked much better, she was walking around, was eating, and keeping her food down, was going to the bathroom, and more, the only problem was that she was walking funnny and still looked like she was sick, basically right now she looks like someone had beaten her, thats how weird shes walking! Which my little cousin was here last sunday, and was playing very rough w/ poor Angel, Angel was fine that day, but I had to take my dog away from my cousin several times, because she was like abusing her, my cousin is only three, but has nooooooo understanding of animals, I was the disiplinary person at that time, for the sake of my dog, my parents were a bit disgusted w/ her parents not taking control of their three year old daughter! We'll I will let you know what we find out, and if i'm not on for a few days, then I guess something could have gone wrong, pray that Angel will soon be running again, ON EARTH, W/ ME! I don't want to lose my best friend in the whole world! Angel has always been the one to pull me back up on my feet, now she needs me to do that for her. I'll take pictures of her when she is happy and healthy again!
We switched her dog food to an all organic food "blue buffalo" We switched her slowly, but didn't realize she was barfing it up :( " I feel horrible switching her food over now, because it only made the problem worse, I'm just going to keep her at natural choice the rest of her life, I don't want to see my poor dog barfing up everything she eats!
Thanks riley, Angel has to get all her shots again sometime in november, but we update them every year, so I was going through all her medical papers, just rereading things, trying to see what they test dogs for,
Should we take angel's dog poo into the vet place?
And what else should we take w/ us, this is a different vet place were going to, are other vet is too far away, and this veterinary place is new and seems very organized, wich gives me a sense of comfort!
I won't be back on for a while, I have to go get ready fro the wedding ceremony "not a real wedding, but the one they do to prove that your married under the law, or state" I don't want to go, of fear leaving Angel behind by herself, neighbor wasn't home! :(
Talk to you all later on in the day, i'm sighning out!
I'd bring all her vaccine records including rabies. A stool sample might be good, it can't hurt. You could also have your regular vet fax over any files she has. Is she allergic to anything? Jasmine is allergic to a type of anestheia so I always make sure to tell a new vet about it.
thanks everyone, we'll were back from the wedding ceremony, Angel seems a tad bit better, only because she switched the postition she was sleeping in, and she ate two tiny pieces of bread and had a sip of water, we will be going to the vet in two hours, I am anxious to see what they say about her, at least Angel seems to be a tad more alive today!
I don't think Angel is allergic to anything, but I can check her medical records and see, my mom may know! But i remember asking my mom is Angel was allergic to anything and she said she wasn't for sure!
We'll were back, we absolutely love the new vet place, they defiantly new what they are doing! I have some good news and bad news!
Good news: Angel is going to live! :) We have her on pain free meds, and got some very good ear ointment for her ear infection! They reccomended since Angel has a digestive problem, that we keep her on a wet food called EN by purina, the main ingredients in the food are perfect for any dog. We are keeping her on the moist food ONLY, for about 2 weeks, then we switch her over to a dry dog food by purina, and she will still have some moist food. The EN stuff, is for very sensitive stomachs, so they said it should never give her any problems.
Bad news: She has to get surgery done on her back right leg, becuase since toy poodles tend to have back leg problems, hers has turned into arthritis, the surgery on her one leg will be almost $1,000 and later on if she needs the surgery on her left back leg, my parents will have it done. They want to see if the surgery actually makes a diference for her on her right leg, before they would go ahead and do her other one! Angel is very depressed and just mopey, she won't walk on her right back leg at all! Her legs have been fine her entire life, the only thing is that when she would run, her one leg seemed to stick a bit more to her, but never looked like it was hurting her, then in only three days, boom, her leg is messed up and needs surgery, just doesn't make sense to me! The surgery is for sure going to get done, but their is no scheduled time, has anyone ever had this surgery on their dog, how did it go? What were the results? Are their any problems? Are the dogs in pain? Tell me everything PLEASE!
We'll i am very pleased w/ these vets, and we are going to stick w/ them, for now on! they told me their is no need for a dog to be on all organic, it's not the best for them, we may think it is, and it looks very appealing, but their main vitamins and minerals come from the bag purina stuff that We got. we'll everything else was fine, and Angel will be alright, she is on pain medications, antibiotics, and ear ointment. We got the moist canned purina food 2 of them, bag of purina dog food, free measurement cup, free canned food lid, and pills to stop her pain, 1 shot to relieve any tummy ache problems, and i think thats was all! we'll thanks for everything :) My dog will be ok, i'm just worried about the surgery, but it isn't a life or death situation, so it's all good! :)
um no offense but vets also recommend Science Diet which is a horrible food...I work at a pet store(we don't sell pets just food and such) and we only sell food that has ingredients that are good for our furry friends...there's so much that a lot of people don't know about dog food. here's the ingredients for the dry EN food: Brewers rice, corn gluten meal, whole grain corn, chicken meal, coconut oil, animal digest, animal fat preserved with mixedtocopherols (form of Vitamin E), calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, L-Lysine monohydrochloride, sodium bicarbonate, soybean oil, fish oil, salt, choline chloride, Vitamin E supplement, zinc proteinate, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), manganese proteinate, ferrous sulfate, niacin, copper proteinate, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, garlic oil, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, calcium iodate, biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), sodium selenite.
Right there the first ingredient is Brewer's Rice which really serves no purpose for dogs and actually a lot of them end up being allergic to it and the next two ingredients are corn which has "protein" technically but it's used in place of proper protein as from meat and the such and corn works more as a filler. I understand that you'll want to do what the vet suggested but I must advise against sticking with this food there are so many better one out there without corn and stuff. Glad you found out what was wrong and I hope she starts feeling better!
I would never feed my dogs Purina, Iams, Science Diet, Pedigree, or any other foods that you can buy at the grocery stores. Feed stores carry the better quality dog foods and just because some dogs may like the crappy foods, it does not mean that its good for them. I used to feed my dogs the Kibbles-n-bits, before i was given a print out from a co-worker on dog food. Wow, what a difference ! Better skin and coat and a lot less poop. Because the better food was actually being digested and not shooting out their butts faster than cannon balls.....
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
We'll, my mom said she is going with what the vet says, and is keeping her at the purina, Angel is alergic to certain ingredients in those healthier foods, and it was making her sick, it is just to rich for her tummy to handle. I have tried out the healthier foods for a little bit now, we went from natural choice to blue buffalo, and had her on those foods for about 4 months now, she was doing fine on the natural choice, the we went even healthier to the blue buffalo, and Angel loved the food, but couldn't seem to keep it down, so basically she was staying her wait but on an empty stomach, thats just not right for me to be doing to my dog, so if the crappy food is keeping her healthier and happier, then thats all i'm going to feed her. most of your dogs out their can handle those rich and healthy ingredients, and i would like my dog to be on an all organic dog food, but it just makes her sick and barfy so I can't get it for her now!
Canine EN is a prescription diet for GI problems. As you said it's good for every dog. Back when I worked at a veterinarian's boarding kennel we fed EN to the dogs that didn't bring their own food from home, so they wouldn't get upset stomachs. Hopefully it will help Angel.
Typically if she's allergic to something in the better foods than she's also going to have problems with the, for lack of better words, crap food. What's a strong possibility is that she just can't handle the richer meats such as venison, buffalo, etc., but as I really that's just my personal opinion, I've seen this happen to dogs before...regardless I'm glad your baby's doing better.
Thanks everyone, I'm trying to figure out her food situation, i know you all are right about it, it's crap, and i honestly have no clue what to feed my poor dog, she won't eat, ANYTHING! I tried giving her her most favorite dog treat in the world, she turned her head from it, locked her mouth closed tight and didn't want anything to do with it, shes going to the vet again today at 2:30, she has been gagging all day and been burpy, and shes not eating or drinking, shes dehidrated, i don't know what to do ww/ her. I had to shove a pill down her throat to sstop any pain she would be having in her leg, and she was gagging as i was trying to get it down, ugh i feel horible shoving a pill down her throat, i hate doing it, but i know i have to so she has no pain! Another problem now is my parents are trying to rethink this whole surgery thing, because now Angel has been running and jumping up and having no problems, were all confused, my parents said if she has one more problem w/ her back leg, then they promised me they'll take her right in for the surgery. What am i supposed to do about the dog food, i don't want to feed her crap, i just thought that vets new exactly what they were talking about when it came to dog foods, but ya'll say they don't so i'm just so confused as to what to feed her! please give me some info here, thanks mpr!
