I just rescued a 1 year old 19.7 pound 1 year old minpin. I saw him at the rescue agency and immediately fell in love. I didnt adopt him right away because I really didn't know about the breed. I went home did a massive amount of research on the breed for 4 days and went back and adopted him. He is very timid and the rescue agency said that he was probably abused. I have had him for about 6 days now and am pleased to learn that he is was already completely housebroken. He took to me immediately, gives each new person a test with a growl and a jump if they got to pet him. That only happens once though, because if you are brave enough to try it again he just loves you to death. I immediately took him to the vet to get checked out and the vet told me that he was very spoiled. He would not allow anyone but me to pick him up. I bought him a popup sport pet kennel and a throw to go inside of it and he loves it. He immediately went inside and climbed under the throw completley and went to sleep. It took him 2 days to start eating though he would eat from my hand, not from the bowl. I made the mistake of yelling to loud at him at he peed a little on my carpet. Needless to say I will not raise my voice like that again. I can be stearn without shouting. The rescue agency had him listed at 14 pounds but when I got him adoption papers said 17 pounds, at the vets office I weighed him and he weighed 19.7 pounds. He is a GIANT minpin, not fat at all, tall and very muscular. I think he a very special dog and can't figure out why he was a stray(supposedly).
Congraulations on your new baby. Although you do not know his past, you can give him a great future. Lots of love and care and he will be a different dog. Sounds like he has already made himself at home though. Rescuing is very rewarding. We have an English Bulldog, that we fostered and are now adopting. Guess we were foster failures. lol
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
