If you could have another breed of dog, what would it be?
just wanting to know what breed of dog/s you currently own and if you were to have another dog what breed would you choose.

If you want something long lived go small. The general rule of thumb is the smaller the dog, the longer the live. Chihuahua's can live well into their teens, like 17, 18, 19 year. The bigger breeds like St. Bernards, Great Danes and Mastiffs have live expectances of 7 to 9 years.

What about medium breeds? A well bred healthy Pit Bull can live up to 19yrs.

This is Vipette and her great great grandma who is almost 16yrs.

I'm not recommending everyone get a Pit that wants a long lived breed, but I'm thinking that there are other medium sized breeds that live as long as smaller breeds. I know a GSD that died at 18yrs.

The real large and giant dogs just don't live as long. Its a shame but thats a lot of weight and work for their hearts.

Well currently i have an APBT possibly mixed with Labrador Retriever and Dandie Dinmont Terrier mix, and have had a Pomeranian and Jack Russell Terrier. Personally, there are so many great breeds out there i love i would hate to choose but if i had to i would say a Australian Cattle Dog!

I've known many large breeds, who have lived to the 15-17-year age. Ive also known many small breeds pass before their 4th Birthday. There is no guarantee, but you certainly have a better chance, at a healthy life, with any breed, if you do your homework, and regular vet care.

I have a beagle and a basset so I am considering adopting/rescue a bagel (beagle/basset mix) or maybe a bloodhound. I know I could handle the bagel fine and my husband is a bit weary over the size of a bloodhound. More research needs to be done on the bloodhound before a decision will be made.

I just love hound dogs even though they can be a bit trying at times-LOL! Can't beat that let's always be happy and go for a walk attitude.

Haven't researched these, but the ones I would want to research and decide from would be weimeraner, Great dane, standard poodle, mastiff.

If I had to have a little dog it would definitely be a dachshund.

Saint Bernard. I would love to have one. When hubby and I build our new house (within 5 years) I think I am going to buy/adopt one. Our house now would be way too small for one along with the weimaraner, siberian husky, and golden retriever we have now (oh yeah and add in the 3 kids, 2 cats and hubby we live in a zoo!!)

If I had the room to ADOPT I would more then likely get another Jindo at this time.

There's lots of dogs I would foster though if money/space was no option, Bull Terrier, Chow Chow, Shar-pei, Shiba Inu etc...

I would love to have another english mastiff.
I like a lot of breeds, but I have a weakness for EM's, so they are probably all I will ever own.

All of the dogs I've had have been small to medium type terrier mixes.
I think the next dog I get is going to be an upgrade (in size).

I haven't done much research, but my picks for the next time around are:
Boxer, Dogue de Bordeaux, American Bulldog, Bernese Mountain Dog, German Shorthaired Pointer, English Mastiff, Rottweiler, Saint Bernard, Great Dane & Vizsla
(I'd add APBT to the list, but b/c of BSL, there aren't any reputable breeders in my Province that I'd be able to get a well-bred puppy from. If I found one in a shelter though, I'd scoop him up in a heart beat)

The smaller breeds I wouldn't mind having are: Jack/Parson Russell Terrier, Boston Terrier & French Bulldog

If I could have another breed of dog I would have a teacup chihuahua, If anyone has one I would like to trade a Yoy Pom Puppy for a teacup chihuahua

I love my Siberian Husky dogs but an Alaskan Malamute would hold a close second.

Just love the winter breeds and there is nothing like gearing them up with the harness, gang lines and sled.

Well, if you really want one, it's called an Alaskan Klee Kai (UKC). :-D

If I could have any breed, it would be an APBT or a miniature bull terrier.
