1st litter was 11 healthy perfect pups in 6 hours, we are at nine pups in 14 hours right now, and one more to go. One was stillborn, so sad, worked on him for like 20 minutes to no avail. Had one luck one that was breech and she was having a hard time so I had to don the gloves and do a check and there was a tail with no sack on it, pulled with her contractions and got her out and she is actually ok after tons of suctioning, she is still yelling at me for pulling her tail LOL! I also have one cleft palate that is nursing and not aspirating through nose or coming out, but it is split all the way along palate and her front legs are really crooked, also one other pup has a short back leg that has malformed foot and no skin or hair on foot. He is otherwise nursing, big and healthy, but the two of them will have to be put down in the morning. When it rains it pours huh. I am heartbroken, but I know it comes with the territory no matter how much you do to prepare, no matter how well you feed them and plan, these things just happen sometimes. Wish me luck with the last one.
My vet can stich a cleft palete. I know of a Springer that never had any repair done and is still alive to this day. I think he is 6 now. Sorry for the tough whelp. Been there done that. My thoughts are with you.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
Poor girl to have such a hard whelp. she will probably be looking for those other pups as well. my one girl will steal a stuffie or a shoe if she looses one. i would have an X ray done to be sure they are all out. its sounds like she really had a hard time:( many Doberman Huggs and kisses for you all
Beauty is Nice. Peace of mind is Priceless!! Solid stable temperment is EVERYTHING!!
Hi All, Mama is doing fine, that 10th one was the last one as I thought, as I told you already it was still born. I just took the other two to the vet and he said the one with the malformed foot looked like it has the cord wrapped around it early on and cut off the supply, I can't believe I didn't think of that earlier, cuz that is what it looked like. Anyway and the cleft palate he said the split was too long to repair and the legs were beyond help. So we made the right decision and I brought the two of them home and buried them with the two stillborn pups. My mama dog is amazing, while I was working on the two stillborns doind some cpr, she was too, she would put her mouth on their mouth and do that grooming movement, it felt like she was chewing pretty hard, but not a mark on them, she tried so hard as did I, but it was too late for them. Thank you all for your support, I appreciate it. All the other six pups are doing great, we have 4 sable males, 1 sable female and one black & tan female. I'll get pics up on my website very shortly, hopefully tonite and I'll post a link here. Thanks again, have a great day! Barbie

Pictures are up on my site, not sure if I can post my site though, I will tell you though that if you go to yahoo.com and search on West German Shepherd, my site comes up first. PS I live on the West Coast. If you can't find it let me know and I'll try to figure out how to post them here. They are all doing great and will be 1 week tomorrow, what a bunch of little tubs they are!! I just love them! Thanks again for your support.
Hi Sorry for your loss I had a litter 4 weeks ago and lost 3, her 1st litter she was fine had 8 healthy pups I skiped 2 heatcycles and breed her this year and we lost 3, after she had the 1st 3 healthy between 9:30 pm and 1 am we waited till the morning but nothing took her to the vet X-rayed her seen 4 more the vet said she should be fine and have them within the next 6 hrs, nothing took her to the ER because it was a week end vet gave her Oxytocin after about 5 min there was a very big pup stillborn also the next 2 was still born then the last one was a healthy big pup. sometimes one pup is just to big for the female to push out, any ways the 4 I have are healthy and happy. Is your site name Von Klaus.
No it's West Coast German Shepherds. Sorry to hear about your pups, it is really hard, your dog sounds like quite the trooper. I just weighed them tonite, man they are huge, my one sable female is 2lbs 5.1 oz, she is such a chub scout!! Probably didn't help that her id collar says "So Sweet" and has a pic of a cupcake on it!! Calories through osmosis. LOL!!
