I am a supporter of the war, but if I said everything has gone well I would be lying. However, with that said, I am still in full support of this war and will continue to be. The only thing that I think we should have done differently is put more troops in there like we do now. If you see what has happened violence has dropped considerably since the recent surge. Thats what should have been done from the beginning.
The news doesnt report the good things that happen over there. So you not knowing why we are still there makes sense. We are making alot of progress, but there are still terrorists there attacking us and their own people.
Until the terrorists are gone we will still be there. If we just pull out now, there will be another attack on our home soil, or the UK, or anywhere the terrorists dont like.
I support our troops 100% and thank them a millon times but im no longer supporting the war itself. I mean, it is so pointless now because we have detroyed MOST of their home which will take them years to rebuild and THEN they would have to make plans again, which would take them more years, IF they decided to attack us again. So really in my opinion i think we should pull out of iraq and let them go on with their lives and in a few, like 10, years go over there again, not in a war but send some type of person over there to see how far they have gotten in rebulding their lives. And if more action is needed so be it. Just my opinion though.
Sweetie, so we should have left them (Iraqi's) with a cruel leader (Saddam), and we should just leave the terrorists alone because its destroying land? That makes alot of sense. We can't help that terrorists live in Iraq, Afghan, Iran, etc. You can't fight terror with peace. It doesn't work that way.
And like I said, the news doesnt show the Iraqi people THANKING us for being there. They don't care about their land. Now their children have the chance at a future where they can vote, speak freely, and not have to be afraid Saddam is going to throw them into a tree shredder feet first.
I am kind of on the fence about this war. On one hand, i do think Saddamm needed to be taken down. On the other hand , it bothers me that we sent troops to Iraq as fast as we did, yet the Holocaust spanned seven years of pain and suffering for the Jews, and the loss of six million lives, before the American government stepped in to help.

Seems like many confusing the war on terrorism with the war in Iraq. The 911 attack and the war on terrorism had nothing to do with Iraq. It was just an excuse to go in there and get rid of Saddam and his regime. It was the right move imo. He was a menace that had to be dealt with. But the war was over long ago when that objective was reached. The US should have pulled out years ago and focus its attention on other much worse threat in the region. Instead, what the US had tried to do ever since is change the mentality and way of life of an entire culture, and “westernize” a region of the world that is just not compatible with its philosophy. A noble ambitious goal, but not a realistic one, not in our life time anyway.
It is not a coincidence that there are no other democratic governments in the area. Like it or not, those people need to be ruled by dictators. A dictatorship is the only type of government that can control all the different warring factions and protect them from themselves. All the US can do by occupying Iraq is suppressing the violence and delaying the inevitable. Doing pretty much the same as what saddam did. But you can't just erase centuries of hatred and conflict by force. Sooner or later the US will have to leave. Once they do, it will be back to business as usual. The puppet democratic government will be toppled, they will revert to their old ways and be slaughtering each other again in no time. It is just the reality of this messed up part of the world. There are no easy fixes.
This is why the US government does not want to leave. If they do, they will have to admit defeat and all the sacrifice and losses will be in vain.
If I seem to have a superiority complex, it is because you make it so easy.
We're still there bacause the people of Iraq need us there because the soldiers and the government are killing the people. They need us there and every one there except for the government want us there to free their country. I know a guy who was in the war and he told me and all of my friends all about what is really happening over there. It is really horrible, and all I can tell you is to ask God becausse no one here on earth can tell the future like he can.
There is no "winner" when it comes to war. The people of Iraq need the Americans interfering with their own land as much as we all need a hole in the head. G.W. has the men he wanted (al-Qaeda & Taliban forces) and no longer has any business being an intruder in a foreign country. What he (G.W.) has his army doing now is no different then when the Europeans came over to North America and stole the land from the First Nations people (Indians to those of you who like to be politically incorrect). The news doesn't even begin to touch on the crap that's happening over there - the good or the bad - and unless you're actually over there, with your life on the line everyday, I don't think anyone has the right to say what's justified or not. What I do know, is that one more life lost to this cause is unnecessary. I just hope my government does what's right for the people of Canada and removes our soldiers.
