I just happened to stumble across this site and thought it was pretty neat.
I have a cat named Shadow that's a domestic short hair tabby, he may not be a purebred cat like some but I love him all the same. I got him in August of '02 I believe. I got him when he was 4 1/2 weeks old and have had him ever since. His birthday is July 14 2002, he was born to my cousin's cat and me and my younger brother both got one cat from the litter, he chose a light gray female and I chose a dark gray/black/brown male. My brother named his kitten Cloud and I, after a long time thinking of a name, picked Shadow for mine. I have a weird history of picking names for my pets, first dog I ever had was named Thunderbird, second was named Renegade and third was named Dragon, Shadow by far is the most normally named pet I have ever had :p
He's a great cat though, he follows me around and is extremely loyal. He sleeps at the foot of my bed or on my stomach depending on his mood, he'll even lay on me and stretch out and lay his head on my cheek sometimes. He has a bit of a jealous streak as he demonstrates if I ever pay attention to another animal. Right now while I'm typing this he's asleep on his back with his paws sticking up and he looks like he's having a nice little nap but I know were I to get up and head to the kitchen to wash dishes he'd be asleep by my feet before I even had the first dish in the sink. He's such a great cat that we didn't even have to litter train him, or his sister, they were raised by a cat who already used one so I guess they picked up over time. We don't use a litter box anymore though as he goes outside to use the bathroom now, he doesn't like staying inside as much as he used to since Cloudy girl had to be put to sleep. It was a sad when that happened, we found her in my brother's room on the floor shivering, she didn't have the strength to stand or eat, she looked so cold and frail. The vet said she was suffering from kidney failure and that there was nothing we could do for her. Ever since then Shadow's preferred to be outside most of the time, he spent days looking for Cloud around the house and I guess he finally realized she wasn't coming back :(
He pulled through though and he's turned out to be the best pet I've ever had, he's cute, silly and very smart. When he was a kitten I remember him climbing the sheets to my bed once and rubbing his nose on my cheek, his nose was cold and it was too early for that, so I hid my head under the pillow and what does he do? He lays on his belly and slides under the pillow and continues his wet-nosed assault on my cheek XD then 5 years later he does the same thing only this time he was too big to slide under the pillow to get me, but he's also strong and smart enough to stick his paw under my pillow and slap me and that really hurt :( but it was funny.
That's a nice story. I had an orange tabby cat, Pumpkin, for 18 years. When he was 10, he was diagnosed with diabetes and I gave him insulin shots for 8 years afterwards until everything just shut down. He, too, was such a wonderful, loving cat. He followed me everywhere and when I would take a nap, he rested his head on my shoulder and we napped together. I miss him very much. I had him cremated and have his ashes in a little container with his name engraved on it. I feel like there's still part of him here to be with me forever.
Thanks, he's by FAR the nicest cat I've ever had, last one we had gave me a scar on my forehead. Shadow however is superbly sweet and loves to snuggle. My cat also does the head on shoulder thing, he love to lay on me when I'm relaxing and I guess it helps him relax too because he always looks so content when he's resting on me. I love my kitty and I hope to have him for a very long time. One thing that saddens me though is my mother had him neutered, I was hoping that one day he'd be able to have a family of his own with a loving female cat, I kind of was looking forward to having kittens around but that's not an option anymore I guess. I'll probably adopt some kittens though I guess or at least a female friend for him because he does seem lonely at times.
