Hi my dog was recently run over by a car a few weeks ago. She is very small (dachshund) 1y.o. She survived with very minimal injuries. However she and I both have been quite traumatized by this event. I have tried to take her on walks only to end up turning around because she pulls me all the way back home. She is VERY skiddish around cars as I imagined she would be. Any suggestions on getting her through this? I have been trying to keep at this hoping she will get more comfortable as time goes on.
Your doing the right thing....but I'd give the doggie a little more time. It might be too soon. Like they say..."one step at a time". Maybe if you carry the dog..when it wants to go home... to make it feel secure and safe.
I dont blame the dog either, it is a natural response. Just like if you had a bad accident to due with heights i would bet afterwards you would never go near or around big heights again. I would try the above suggestion by carrying her/him, sorry forgot the sex. Or have a little carry bag, like one of those a dog goes in and have a kind of view window in it and walk by cars with her in that so she feels safe and secure but is still seeing the cars and once again getting use to them. Good Luck =)
