I've recently started living with my boyfriend and when I moved I took my 6 year old Border Collie. She's the most wonderfuly gental thing and gets along with anyone. My boyfriend told me be wanted a dog of his own now but we can't choose the right breed. Any ideas of what would suit my pup best? Thanks
First of all I would consider your lifestyle, and how many hours you spend away from the home every day. After that, what kind of place do you live in, an apartment, or a house on 20 acres of land. Those questions will cut down on some breeds, and give you a smaller list to choose from. Good luck with choosing!
Well if your dog gets along with "EVERYTHING" then whatever dog you get should get along well with her. I would suggest going to your local shelter and getting yourselved a nice little mixed breed dog to love. Good Luck!
Pen2: Must have missed what your talking about. Do explain?
I agree with pen2, she didn't missunderstand the question. An older dog is trained and will adapt. But a new dog/puppy will need alot more time PLUS space. Because now they will be amusing each other by running around etc... Once you deside what SIZE will suit your area..then you can make a choice of a breed. GOOD LUCK!
I would suggest an Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog. This breed is very intelligent and easy to train, this breed also gets along great with other pets. I would also suggest a puppy verses an adult because you need to let your puppy grow up with your adult dog for assurance that they will both get along with one another. Good luck
Sweetiemommyof2, as a breeder, I always ask about the prospective owners life style, what their work schedule is like, whether they live in apartment, or an acreage, children, how many and what age, other dogs and pets they already have, etc etc. Some of the answers to the questions automatically rule out certain breeds. Do you understand where I'm coming from now?
Pen2, oh yes i understand now. I just thought it might have been in relation to a different post and the OP answered those questions already and i would have had a look at those to help him/her to get farther along as to selecting a breed. Thank you for clarifing that though!

First off, I don't even think a "Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog" is a breed. And second I think you are trying to promote your own breeding practices here.
There is nothing wrong with getting an older dog to go with this dog. You just have to go about it the right way they can get along great! I have a golden retriever that was a drop off and he is 3 and I recently got a weimaraner that is 18 months (both males mind you) and with slow introductions they get along just great! They are best buddies now.
You have to look at what is going to fit your lifestyle and the room you have for them to get out and go!!! Good luck on your search. I suggest you look into breed rescues and shelters first off!
