On nov the 2 my father passed away of a massive heart attack - due to the guy he always got hay from was baling hay his two stud colts had been out of hay for a week- they were getting sweet feed. on the day my dad passed away, he was to go pick his hay up that afternoon. the next week the family spent tring to beal with the sudden death and other matters that had to be taken care of- the horses were feed but no hay- there is grass. Anyway on Friday 9. my mom gets a not on her door from this HAVE A HEART HORSE RESCUE out of BALDWYN, MS and she called the number back- this person Shelia- proceeds to bless my mom out about the colts looking thin and that something had to be done. my mom tries to tell the lady what happened and her response was "IT DID NOT MATTER!" but something had to be done. My moma tries to tell her that my dad had dropped dead of a massive heart attack again the person tells her that it does no matter. My mom is cring by now and telling her that she has the sweet feed in the truck and that she was to get hay the next day. then the person tells my mom that they would take away the colts from her. This is a colt that my mom raised from a bottle- and a woman that has just lost her husband of over 34 years exactly 1 week prior. My sister and I are grown and have our own familys and jobs and were unable to help get the hay- because the guy we get hay from had none until he got it baled. Anyway the pasture had 2 stud colts in a small lot, and 5 mares in a larger pasture- they are mud hog fat. Our vet saw the horses on Sat. and he saw nothing wrong and gave a dose of wormer. Then my mom's cousin who owns the land is hem-hawing around he wants the horses moved- come to find out the RESCUE people told this 80 year old man that he would go to jail because the horses were on his land and they were "NEGLECTED". and they were going to have the law to "impound" the horses. so he freaks thinking he is going to be in trouble. anyway I wanted to let the horse people know that this rescue is overboard. After my mom was blasted by this person- my sister called the woman back and told her to never call my mom again and again tried to explain the situation- again told it did not matter. the woman was then informed to NEVER bother our mom again and to call sister of brother in law- on saturday night the person did call and say she over reacted and she would recheck in 30 days. now as far as i know this rescue was founded by 2 women with no legal backing- ie human society- they "find" neglected horses and go to court- which is needed in some cases. but anyone with half a brain would have heard "husband died of a massive heart attack 1 week ago" would have said I am sorry and hung up. again i had to vent and get the word out about this "organization" It had been emphasied that they had best leave our family alone- 2 and 4 legged.
I think the is totally rude and uncalled for, Any rescue who had 1/2 a brain knows that they can not just take an animal unless it's life is in danger, and they have to prove it. No hay for small amount of time is perfectly fine. As long as they are fed somesort of grain, or hay pellet. I would get that rescue for (I wish I could spell)hurrasment (sorry I know I messed that up bad) Hokt on phoniks workt 4 me lol.
I am sorry for you lose, and I hope everything turns out OK in the end.
The former message was posted against our organization and all we do is for the best interest of the horses. After numerous calls and complaints concerning these 2 stud colts we went out to evaluate the situation. The callers stated to us that the horses had not been fed properly nor given hay in a very long time. When we are called we do not draw any conclusions, at that time we collect evidence with the police, and obtain a police report. Then we try to contact the owners to find out what is going on and let them know that there have been several complaints and see what we can do to work with the owners. If this fails we then go to a judge with the officer and our evidence and the judge grants a seizure order through the police dept. and the police place them in our custody. Everything is legal and in compliance with the state statutes. In this case we felt that it would be more compassionate to work with the family due to their loss of a loved one. That our organization works strictly from compassion not malice. Our goal is to help the owners get back on track and give them advice. Only in extreme cases do we have to remove the animals. There is a video available of these horses that shows there body condition at the time of the complaint which was filmed on Nov the 9th 2007. Upon a notarized release from the owners of the colts there is also a recorded conversation. As of December 26th we are still receiving complaints that this sorrel and white colt has had no hay for a week and our weather conditions have been extremely cold. We have personally drove by several times including today and there is no hay and no grass. We understand that owners will get upset with us but we are only here for the good of the animals because that is what our organization does. We are also building a web-site that should be up sometime after the 1st of the year that will show pictures and stories of just what our organization stands for. We will send a e-mail with our web-site address as soon as it is available for viewing.
We would like to say one more time that we are sorry for their loss especially through the holidays.
Please do not forget your animals through holidays, so please give them some hay.
