We are getting a 10 month old puppy from a rescue this Friday. The lady thinks she is Shihtzu (sp) & Italian Greyhound. I am thinking Poodle w/something else because of the hair. But I need some help, I am a large breed person, and do not know my small breeds all that well.
Any opinions will help. Either way, I think she is just adorable, just curious to know.
I think Boston/Poodle. There are so many poo mixes now because of designer dogs. Whatever she is, its something cute.
Can I ask you how did you get a rescue to adopt to you? Having other dogs (especially Pit Bulls) and ones that are intact and even bred? My friend has a female they showed and wanted to adopt a male. Since she had an intact female (even though the male was neutered) they wouldn't adopt and the others had the same clause. They said they will not adopt out to homes that have intact dogs/cats. Is there a way around it? They have given up almost all hope.
I know the easiest way is most shelters, they are not as strict as rescues, but they don't usually have Pit Bulls and if they do a lot of them don't get along with other dogs already. They wanted one from a rescue because the dog would be to be known to be good with other dogs. Living in a foster home they can tell you more then a shelter.
The pupp isn't coming from a Shelter type of situation, but from an individual who rescues them, spays/neuters, gives vaccs, and worming, then charges a small re-homing fee. With me, I had one lady tell me no because of the Pit Bulls and Rottweiler. She was just flat out rude, so I did not try to convince her of their temperment, just left it at that. It's people like this lady that just really irk me..closed minded to all.
The lady that I am getting the pup from asked also, but I explained their manner, temperment, showed pictures of them with our cats and ferret as well as sleeping, playing with the kids. I also sent her a video I have of one of our females Pits playing with a kitten while 2 others watched from inches away.
She was convinced, and had no problems.
If your friend goes through a non profit shelter, they will ask questions, and some even want references, while others will want to come to your home for a visit first. Most likely, she will be denied. Tell her to do what I did, but be open about the dogs, tends to look better, not like you're hiding something.
We're picking up the pup today after work. My daughter has no idea yet. She is going to be very very happy!
Thanks for all the replies. I see poodle for sure, but boston,,,,I dont know.
Here are a few more pictures she sent me, the pups name is Zoe.
We picked her up Saturday evening. She is a riot!! I called my daughter outside to see something,,when she got around the corner and saw "Zoe" she flipped! ANd they have been best friends since. Zoe is housebroken, and soo tiny , compared to my other dogs. The female pit that is due any day, thinks Zoe is hers. They all get along great.
