We have an 11 year old boxer that became sick about 3 weeks ago. Went to the Vet and after spending $800 it was determined that he has a thyroid problem and is presently under medication . Anyway. he looks sick and is presently experiencing balance issues , Also he is tired and became a poor eater ! We both work & must leave him in our garage due to anxiety issues , We are sad to see him this way and upset to leave this sick animal in a semi cold garage , Maybe its time , Can anyone help?
Let me guess, you have a boxer that could potentially have quite a bit of time left if treated correctly for thyroid issues... but you're considering putting him down because you don't want to leave him in a cold garage?
I would say, find a dog sitter.. and either heat the darn garage or let him stay inside.
Dogs are a part of the family and a responsibility.
I am curious about the diagnosis because he should have started to turn around by now. The balance issue with the other things sounds like "heavy metal poisoning". In areas where mining goes on or even chewing on boards with lead paint and lots of other ways, a dog will show these type of signs. Its one of the last things vets check for. Just a thought. Good luck
Has your Boxer's health improved any by now? His symptoms sounded pretty grave. Hopefully you were able to move him indoors, out of the cold garage. What kind of life is that, to be banished to the garage? Dogs are natually social creatures and need companionship.
