my indoor cat (who is a little shy of a year old) has gained a little weight lately. i'm thinking it's probably because we still have her on kitten food. i was planning on taking her off the kitten food sometime in december (her bday!), but now that i've noticed she's been putting on the pounds, i'm going to take her off it after she's done with this bag of food. does anyone know whether it would be better to put her on an indoor formula or would a diet formula be better? thanks!
If she is just "a little" overweight, I would just switch to a regular indoor adult food and just control the quantity she gets. Since she's not quite a year old, I wouldn't cut back on nutrition from a kitten food straight to a diet food. Depending on where you live, everybody puts on a little extra weight for the winter months. I thought my Allie was overweight and she's only 7 months. But then my vet said she's just filling out nicely and not to worry. Which is great because I have a 5 month old and I'm getting another which wil be 2 months old so it's impossible for me to take away the kitten food for a while. But yours is young too. Get a laser pointer or other activity toys and make sure she plays hard to work it off.
